I am currently reading Focused for Bowling by Dean Hintz. It is totally about the mental aspect of the game so don't look for help with your mechanics in this book.

I am really enjoying reading this book. I borrowed it from my local library and will probably end up buying it sometime down the road. It is the kind of book that you can read now and pick up again later to reinforce what you have read.

You don't have to be a high average bowler to benefit from this book -- you can take as much from the book as applies to your own situation.

Its out of print, but The Bowlers Manual by Lou Bellisimo is also excellent for basic fundamentals. Lou was the coach for the University of Oregonin the late 50's to the mid to late 70's. He was on the same level as Bill Taylor as far as teaching bowling. The last revision of his book was in the early to mid 80's... and for ovious reasons there will not be anymore revisions....

I started with a book that could have been used for a college bowling class. I covers the basics in the classic, older style. After learing that, I purchased Bowling Execution by John Jowdy. It's a great follow up to the first book. He also gives you the proper Execution, but then follows it up with the styles the pros use (which are apparently all exceptions to the rule!)

The book by Michelle Mullen is very good. I happen to live in the Detroit area and am lucky enough to have Michelle as my coach. The book is easy to follow and quite informative. thumbsup

Ya know, I've never subscribed to anything but I receive 2 bowling mags a month. I wonder about that...

But yeah, I think I should get more popular mags.

I am one of the older members of this forum and I have an extensive library of bowling instructional books dating back to 1956. I still refer to the older books as the basics remain the basics now or 50 years ago. Listed in order of year of publication with an * denoting a favorite:

How To Bowl Better* - Ned Day 1956
Bowling Tips from Brunswick Champions* - Gordon S. White 1961
Secrets Of Perfect Bowling - Lou Bellisimo 1965
Every Bowler's Training Manual* - Charles Robinson 1966
Add 30 Pins To Your Bowling Score - Billy Welu 1972
Bowling - Nelson Burton Jr 1973
Inside Bowling - Don Johnson 1973
Inner Bowling - Barry Mann 1977
Winning Bowling* - Earl Anthony 1977
Strike Power* - Dave Davis 1977
Perceptive Bowling* - Robert Strickland 1980
Mastering Bowling - Dawson Taylor 1980
The Complete Book Of Bowling* - Vesma Grinfelds 1980
Weber On Bowling - [censored] Weber/Roland Alexander1981
The Mark Roth Book Of Bowling - Mark Roth/Chuck Pezzano 1981
Marshall Holman's Bowling Tips & Techniques - M. Holman 1985
Bowl Like A Pro - David Ozio 1992
Par Bowling the Challenge* - Thomas Kouros 1993 (I gave away Kouros' first Par Bowling book to a fellow bowler)
Bowling-How To Master The Game* - Parker Bohn III 2000
Bowling Execution* - John Jowdy 2002
Focused For Bowling - Dean Hinitz 2003
Bowling Fundamentals - Michelle Mullen 2004

Over the years I lost two books - one was by Billy Sixty and the other was by [censored] Ritger. The Ritger book I lent to my boss and never got it back.
