Central Maryland Assn Tourney - 04/12/10 09:39 AM

Joe and I along with 8 other guys bowled the tourney on the last day, all 9 games. I took first in scratch singles with a 734 set. Joe and his teammates took first in the team scratch, dethroning the reigning 5 time champs and the team i was on took 4th in the team scratch. 2 of my team mates took first in scratch doubles. Once everything is finalized I may be getting 3rd in all events scratch.

Who wouldn't love results like that out at Nationals smile

Congratulations, Vampyre, on winning the association scratch singles title this year. I couldn't think of anybody else I would rather pass it on to.

It seems my teammates and I had our best series in the team event.
Wayne - 517
Bob - 610
Chris - 674
Joe - 737
Adam - 753
Lucky me, this was my first year bowling the team event, and we dethroned the five-time champs. Woo hoo! If only we could have stayed on that same pair for singles and doubles. It seemed like the other end of the house played a lot different.

In any case, it was a great day for the Terrace Lane Terrors. I can hardly wait till states in May, and nationals in July.

Just imagine, if take away wayne and added me and my 764 team set onto that last.....thought i don't know what would PO the team you took down worse...getting blown out of the water or to beat them by a couple of sticks...hehehehe

Blowing them out of the water would have been fun, too. smile

We have to remind Mac to update the Central MD USBC website. It is still showing the 2007-2008 results.

Congratulations Joe and VampyreBowler!

Nice scores. What kind of shot did they have down?

I wish I could perform like that at tournaments. Usually I just bowl around average.

It was the shot they normally lay down for their big mens league and what they use when they hold the king of the hill tourneys

Re: Central Maryland Assn Tourney - 04/12/10 01:37 PM

Thanks, Vince (VFF57). If you bowled your Virtual League average at tournaments, you would do quite well!

We bowled team, then singles, then doubles. For the team event, the pair I bowled on played like the Scorpion. There was longer oil with some friction to the outside and down the lane. I was able to use my Rogue Cell, stand 21 and look at 7 at the arrows. I shot 737 for series.

To the chagrin of all the bowlers that changed pairs, the singles pair was more like Cheetah. Unfortunately, it took a few games to realize that. The ball I used for the team event was giving me an over-under reaction when I tried to play the same line. Hoping for more oil inside and to smooth out the reaction, second game I switched to my particle Ogre and moved inside. But the ball just wanted to hook early. So, third game I switched to a weaker ball, my Cherry Vibe, moved outside, but that reacted even stronger to the dry. By the end of singles, I was standing 30, looking 10 at the arrows, and hooking the whole lane with the Cherry Vibe. I did not score well at all, shooting a dismal 530 for series.

The pair for doubles was more like the Cheetah pattern again. But, I was a little more prepared. I went back to my Rogue Cell, and played from 20 to 5, a sharper outside angle, and finished with a modest 634 series, and 1901 all events.

I had only bowled at this house once before, and the shot then was more like the Doubles and Singles pairs. I guess whoever got to bowl on the more Scorpion-like pairs had a bit of an advantage. But, that's the luck of the draw. The lanes are synthetic, with wood backends. So, that may account for some of the difference.

Also factor in the fact that of 8 pairs of lanes, 2 pair was used for team event.....by the time that was done the building was getting toasty inside and could have thinned oil out some so it may have spread out to where normally there wouldn't be any oil

Joe, thanks for the information. Sounds like you guys had an interesting and rewarding day. You bowled well especially since it was on challenging patterns. I was curious about the shot because there was a scratch tournament in my area yesterday on the Viper pattern. I was tempted to go but I think I need another summer in the PBAx league for more practice/experience on flatter oil.

Congrats again gentlemen!
