Now this is the feel good story of this year, don't you think? And just think, less than a year ago he was laid off from his job at GM (and the particular plant he worked at closed down later on) and now he is the reigning PBA World Champion!!!

Can it get any better or could it inspire some of us if not all of us?

All of us here at both BIGHMW.com Headquarters as well as here on this board want to congratulate Tom Smallwood for his great performance today. I hope that the folks at either ESPN SportsCenter or at E:60 do a piece on him and his incredible story. Hey, they did one on Belmo last season, so why not this one?

Doh!! I came to this site just as I'm watching the title match begin and clicked on this thread before I realized what it was. Of course I'm still going to watch the match.

Can a mod re-title this thread please so it doesn't spoil it for others who may have recorded but not yet watched the match?

From what I can tell from some of the ticked-off posters on this thread that there ae many of you who either TiVoed or DVR'ed the telecasts while watching the NFL.

I do apologize for potentially spoiling it for some of you and will remember to not post the final results until late that evening or the following morning, in order to give all of you who have indeed DVR'ed the show a chance to watch it and then after that we can review it after you guys (and gals) are through watching the telecast.

Thanks,

Re: [spolier] wins the PBA World Championship!!! - 12/13/09 07:26 PM

That was my case. The game I was watching was pretty much over with over a quarter left to play and I started to watch the bowling. I normally don't come on the site until after I've watched the telecast, or at least stay away from the PBA section.

Even just posting a spoiler alert and not mentioning the winner in the title can allow others to know not to look if they don't want to. I still like to watch what happens even if I know the winner.

I've edited the subject so it doesn't give it away to those browsing the topics.

You don't really have to wait to post about it, just put a warning in the topic's subject and use the [ spoiler] spoiled content here [/spoiler] tags. smile

Well the original title actually had the name of the winner in it before the admin edited it.

Well now that I know better (yup, I learned the hard way), I will from now on refrain from doing this now that I also know that there are some fans on this board who don't necessarily watch the telecasts LIVE as it happens like I do.

I didn't necessarily know that it would have the capability of becoming a spoiler, and also the storyline that has been such a great one that I just felt obligated because of it to share some of it with you.

Maybe next time I will wait until someone else wants to bring it up before doing so in the near future.

Thanks,

You just got a little excite Ray. No harm no foul, some people just found out the winner before they got to watch it. There are worse things that could happen.

His style is similar to late Jimmy Keeth.

You think is right?

I remember the way Jimmy Keeth bowled, but he was all speed along with all that power and the high RPM rate that he was able to generate. His bugaboo was spare making.

But, Jimmy Keeth was double-jointed, that is how he was able to bowl one-handed with his style as opposed to the hybrid Jason Belmonte/Jimmy Keeth style that Tom Smallwood has.

It basically is a two-handed start up until the apex of his backswing, like Belmo, then everything downward is much like Keeth, one-handed, but only with slower speed and much better control.

BTW, I always wondered, since we now have opened the door to double-jointed players with titles, does anybody here remember Bob Vespi? It seemed like from 1992-93 he was unbeatable with that great bent-elbowed strike ball he threw, but like most power crankers did in the 90's, his downfall was a low spare conversion %.

Too new to bowling to remember Bob Vespi, but he was very successful, winning 2 titles. Looking on Youtube, I saw a telecast where he actually mentions that he'd been working on his spare shooting and how it's gotten a lot better. Amazing style, that guy has.

Whatever happened to him and Kelly Coffman?

Here is some vintage Bob Vespi when he was hot:
