Bowling and Golf combo league

Bowling and Golf combo league - 02/19/09 03:59 PM

This is my first post so I just want to say hey to everybody, Ive been lurking for a bit and have gotten some great info off this site.

My bowling center also ownes a 18 hole public golf course, and I have noticed that a number of the winter bowling league members are also golfers. Ive got this idea for a bowling and golf combination league.

Im thinking two person teams, bowl against each other for 3 games worth a possible 4 points, standard stuff. Then the same two teams play against each other at the golf course for nine holes. Im looking for scoring and format ideas on the golf end. I somehow want to make the nine holes worth 4 points. I am also unsure of how to make the handicap system work.

Sorry for the lengthy first post, anybody with any info or ideas would be great. Right now Im like a sponge just looking to soak up any kind of thoughts or experience.

I like the combo idea, but that would take forever to do in one day. It would be very hard to get everyone to be free twice a week at the same time. I would love something like that though.

Your right about the length of time, Im not giving up though smile I think I figured out my own problem.

Have the 9-Holes divided into Three 3-Hole matches each worth 1 point. Then have the fourth point be the fewest combined strokes. To make it work I think it would have to be a best ball format.

Im still unsure how to handicap the bowling/golf and I need a creative name smile

Brunswick Perry Hall has a golf/bowling league during the summer.

They do? I've haven't even paid attention to the summer leagues recently. I'm not a golfer so that league wouldn't matter to me anyways.

Oh really. If I wasnt on the other side of town, I would check it out to see how it work. It would be hard for me to find a partner for the golf half of it plus I suck at golf but I would be interesting to see.

I happened to see the flier sitting on the desk when I was up there a week or two ago. I am unsure on the details of the league, but next time I am up there, I'll pick one up for you. Or you can grab one when your up there for league Calvin.

I don't really go to the desk so that's probably why I haven't seen the flier. I do need to start looking to see what summer leagues they are running. I would just like to see how they are going to work that league though. I'll be there tomorrow for league so maybe I'll look out for the flier.

Pimo, welcome to the site. 3 hole matches would be interesting, or you could do 3 hole stroke totals worth 1 point, and then total for the round worth another. Either way, you are probably rather likely to have ties in the golfing end. Much easier for people to tie over 3 holes in golf than it is over 10 frames in bowling.

For the 2 person team part, if you want 3 hole stroke total, you could have each person play their own ball. That would cut down on the likelihood of ties, and one bad hole wouldn't necessarily kill you - 8/4, 4/4, 4/4 still beats 5/5, 5/5, 5/5.

Also, you'd probably want to do the 9 holes first. Especially if you can work out a deal where half of the league starts on the front, half on the back. If you have 12 teams, that's 6 per side, 3 foursomes per side. Should be 2 hours tops between the first person going out and the last person coming in. Then, you can start practice at 8:15-8:30. 3 games with 4 people per pair shouldn't be more than 1:30 - be done by 10.

The Seniors League in Bowling also has a Golf league. But, it's not run by the House.

Or, have golf one week and bowling the following week? 4 man teams and you divide into (2) person teams and play for golf. Play 9 holes one week, and bowl 3 games the next. Both will take about the same amount of time. You play the same as you would in match play for golf. You win 1 up you get say 4 points. You tie, teams each get 2. For the bowling, you would have 2 point per game and 2 for series to keep the points even between sports. Then, the "roll off" would be 9 holes followed by 3 games.

We have Golf/Bowling league at my center which has been going on forever. Its only offered in the summer here though. They bowl one week and the next week they golf. The point system is just like gp suggested.
