2015-16 Honor Scores - 09/02/15 02:02 PM

As usual, we also have a "brag" thread for honor scores. As this thread is started, please try to include the league name and bowling center (along w/ city, state) so I can credit the score(s) on our Facebook page. smile

Or a congratulatory thread depending on who's posting. It sure would be nice to do a little bragging this season.

Re: 2015-16 Honor Scores - 09/27/15 07:45 PM

I'll add the first one of this young season. smile

Shot my 3rd 300 today in the local tournament at my home house. It came in game 2 of the four game qualifying. Best bowling I've ever done in my life. Buried the pocket all day, left almost all corner pins when I didn't strike. Had 233, 237, and 239 in the other 3 qualifying games.

I was the top seed and received a bye to the quarterfinals. Started with the front 7 and shot 268. Semis started with the front 7 again but with an open in the 8th. Shot 254. Cruised into the finals but ran up against a really tough opponent (the same guy who shot a 900 in February). It was a two-game final and my 234 and 256 was 24 pins short.

Still, really happy with averaging over 250 for the entire day and adding another honor score to my resume. Used my Columbia 300 Disorder, my previous two 300s were with my Ebonite Cyclone and my Ebonite Challenge respectively. The Ebonite family of bowling balls seems to work really well for my game.

wronghander, this tournament makes me doubly happy b/c you had the 300 and because Hakim won. I'll make sure your honor goes up on FB. smile

Thanks. With Hakim winning I also know that this will make it onto the 10th board as well. smile No shame in losing to him btw, he bowled great and actually had the front 9 in the 2nd game before leaving a split in the 10th. The folks that stuck around saw some great bowling.

Congratulations. Great bowling. The only time I have had scores like that are during practice. The Mission X is my number 1 ball. Nothing I have tried can match up with it.

Re: 2015-16 Honor Scores - 10/06/15 11:35 AM

Had my first 300 of the season last night, and third of my career (all this calendar year). I *think* my games were 226, 203, 200, 300 in that order. Felt like it was close all night but struggled, just told myself to relax and not try to do so much with the ball. Suddenly my power and consistency showed up and I was in "can't miss" mode. Was pretty sure after the 7th frame I'd go all the way, barring a stone eight or somesuch. Used my Diva for my second 300 with this ball. Opponent tossed a 249, has to hurt but to his credit he struck out in the tenth to edge me in total pins by a handful.

May no longer be considered a true honor, but I'll add a score that I'm aware of: wronghander had a 290 game last night in his trios league. smile

Thanks all, appreciate the kudos. I also like the pic you posted Boss, good stuff. Also thanks Richie for mentioning my 290 game last night. I had the first strike in the next game so it was a Varipapa 300. smile

Also Congrats Rick on another 300 as well.

224-258-300-782 last night. Threw my shined Crux all 3 games. 30 #32, first one with the Crux to go along with a couple of 800s with the ball in the spring.

Edit- 300 #32, not 30. 30 would be really bad.

Congrats, Fin. Keep those honor scores rolling.

Re: 2015-16 Honor Scores - 11/15/15 10:51 PM

Thanks- I'd been putting up pretty good numbers, but just not finishing. Even with what I shot, I lost 55 pins to the guy ahead of me for average in that league- he's now at 245-246, and I'm at 241. He went 297-263-277-837. It's still early, though.

wronghander posted about his 290 game in the regular league thread, but I'm also aware of another member's honor score: jbungard had a 300 game in his scratch league the other night, as well. smile

Congrats to both! smile

Thanks Richie! 15 in a row Wednesday night with 12 of them in the same game for a change. Too bad it wasn't in my VL input league frown

Way to go wronghander and jbungard.

Re: 2015-16 Honor Scores - 02/20/16 10:16 PM

264-274-268-806 Wednesday night with the Zero Gravity. Probably my first 274- front 9, 8 count spare, 6 count washout on the fill ball. Had 16 in a row from the middle of game 1 through the 9th frame of game 2. I had missed 3 weeks after getting my appendix out, then going out of town for work, so I hadn't bowled league in 4 weeks. 800 #16.

Congrats on the 800, Fin. Guess we really don't need an appendix, at least not for bowling.

Re: 2015-16 Honor Scores - 02/25/16 11:20 PM

Thanks! Yeah, apparently the quickest way to add a pin or 2 to your average is to have it removed. Hmmm, who knew? My post appendectomy average tumbled from 268 all the way to 250 last night, though, as all I could manage was a 697.

Re: 2015-16 Honor Scores - 03/06/16 11:20 PM

Congrats on the 800 Fin. I was hoping to get my first one tonight but will have to settle for my 4th 300 instead and a series of 246+300+226=772. Got a brand new ball drilled up - Hammer Arson Flare Solid. Tried this at a demo day last month and was really impressed with it. I was also reading what Joe had to say about ball weight and how he's having success at 14# and I decided it was time for me to drop back down from 16# to 15#. Carry was excellent and I threw the ball a lot more consistently with the lighter weight. Had 19 strikes in a row at one point.

Did have a bit of a collapse late in the 3rd however (missed a single pin spare by an inch because the ball fell out of my hand, then left a greek church because my speed was too low on a later shot) that cost me the 800. I've now made 3 runs at an 800 this season, the first two of which were in tournaments (first one being 300 & 770 for 3, and the second in a team event where it was 760 for 3 missing a move in the 3rd game on both lanes and getting back-to-back splits). Feel like I'm going to get it soon. But for now, I'll take another 300, especially since this house did change up the shot this season to keep the number of honor scores down.

Congrats on the 300 game, and 772 series, wronghander. Keep it up and the 800 will come.

Got 300 #8 last night. smile

Was only good game of my set as I lost all carry in the pocket after that. Even had 2 pocket 7-10's on same lane over the course of next 2 games.

Re: 2015-16 Honor Scores - 05/23/16 01:34 PM

I'm calling it an Andy Varipapa 800. I know it doesn't count for the record books, but it felt good to roll games of 254, 279, 279 in between a starting game of 257, and finishing game of 249 at a local scratch doubles tournament with VampyreBowler.

We qualified first with a 2429 total for 5 games, 1318 for me, and 1111 for Vampyre. Vampyre was ready to close the deal for first place with a 276 game in the finals, but my 188 was not nearly enough. The lanes were toast by then, and I didn't make the right adjustment. But, still a good and memorable day on the lanes.

Re: 2015-16 Honor Scores - 07/28/16 12:54 AM

Shot 267-250-289 - 806 on the last at I can count an honor score in the 2015-2016 season, as the 16-17 season officially gets under way next week. I needed all 3 in the 10th of the 3rd game to win the "break the bank" strike pot for $700+, but left a flat. 7 on the 2nd ball in the 10th. Oh well, hopefully more money in it next week. 800 #17.
