New Roto Releases

New Roto Releases - 11/16/13 03:09 PM

I really like the 3-ball combo that Roto Grip is releasing in January, 2014. The specs are remarkably well coordinated.

HyperCell - solid, RG 2.52, Diff 0.056, MB 0.018
Asylum - hybrid, RG 2.50, Diff 0.043, MB 0
Uproar - pearl, RG 2.55, Diff 0.030, MB 0

If I was starting from scratch, I would give these 3 balls a serious look. Somebody wanting to build a 4-ball arsenal could do worse than just add a spare ball to this collection.

+1. The Asylum is particularly interesting to me (I like what I have seen from the Disturbed but I kind of prefer hybrid covers in this performance range) BUT I'm still holding out hope that Storm will release the IQ Tour Fusion here.

I will have all three of them in a couple weeks (December 6th or so) and will let you know how they are.

Hopefully have a review up on all three quickly. I have been slacking on the reviews lately because of coaching high school bowling so my channel kind of took a back seat for a month or so. That should change here now that the season has officially ended.

These should be some interesting releases!

Thanks Sk8. I'll be curious to see how close the Hyper Cell is to the original.

Re: New Roto Releases - 11/19/13 10:17 PM

Hey,

i'm hoping the HyperCell is my next ball. If you know anything on it i'm hoping a long and strong layout will be a good choice. What does anyone think? Everyone has their own reasons for a layout on a particular ball but i'm looking to have something for a THS maybe 38' or longer. I have sport covered fairly well. Having a hard time on THS and the house i bowl in on Thursdays is erratic - no rhyme or reason to finding a shot there. sometimes there is one on the lane(s) or one of the lanes on a pair. I think something is wrong with the lane machine. Out of bounds on 7 board out about 2/3rds to 3/4ths the way down the lane always.

it's like threading a needle (almost like sport) but inconsistent moreso than sport. just venting....

i have 2 questions: 1) would this be a good choice for layout on the HyperCell. what is the flare potential and how strong is the coverstock on the ball and how strong is the ball overall coverstock/core combo?

2) who or what ball has the most aggressive cover out there not being biased towards a particular manufacturer? I'm thinking a long and strong layout on a polished or 4000 grit ball with a very aggressive cover.

Massive track flare potential in this ball.

I like it for a long/strong choice, given the high diff and higher than average RG for a top-shelf ball.

I think of stuff this strong as being generally too much for the THS, but one of my teammates did real well last night with a Marvel S and I've had some good games with my Defiant Soul at the same house. Really depends on the shot and on you.

Seems like Brunswick, DV8, and Storm/Roto trade the top spot back and forth in terms of cover strength. The Mastermind looks to be stupidly strong, maybe even stronger than the Endless Nightmare which also looks to be stupid strong (just my opinions).

Re: New Roto Releases - 11/20/13 07:14 PM

you got me laughing on the stupidly strong comments. I have friends with the DV8 and they are having problems with reaction after maybe half a season, even with caring for the ball constantly after bowling, etc...

I'll sacrifice aggressiveness if the coverstock is durable enough not to fade after 100 games. I have balls with the PK17 cover that almost never lose reaction, but, they do not have as aggressive of a cover i'm seeking.

i hope aggressive coverstock doesn't equate to short lived ball reaction.

with that said will the suggestions you mention still hold true?

Re: New Roto Releases - 11/21/13 06:39 AM

What made the original Cell line (Cell/Pearl/Hybrid) unique for me was the incredible midlane read. Even the polished Cell pearl had me standing 5 boards deeper than all my other equipment. I have to believe putting a MicroBite cover around the Nucleus core is gonna be one potent combination. If there was any longevity issue with the original Cell line, it was not performance related, but the durability of the cover. All of mine cracked around the thumb and fingers and eventually became unrepairable.

I didn't have any issues with any of my equipment from the cell line so that is surprising to hear Joe.

I had a Cell, two Cell Pearls, and a Mutant Cell and probably have close to 750 games on one of the Cell Pearls (my benchmark at the time).

If you're asking me personally, I'd rather see you get the new Cell, a Defiant Soul, a Marvel S, or a Sync before any of the Brunswick pieces (and that includes everything under Brunswick's banner). Same reason I'd recommend a Maxim or White Dot over a Storm Ice. That's just me though. I can't speak to the premature ball death though, I've never experienced it with any of my stuff.

Re: New Roto Releases - 11/21/13 11:35 PM

Yeah the new cell is my first choice. The Defiant Soul, Marvel S, or Sync have also been recommended before. I think all 3 by one pro who saw me throw a few games and the Defiant Soul by another pro who said it would favor my game. That before the new Cell was announced. I like the cell's core a lot looking at it and if that cover is anything like advertised i may finally have a THS covered with a long and strong drill.

thanks and i value your input on this.

Here is the first ball review out there:

Re: New Roto Releases - 01/09/14 01:38 PM

This might be just the trio to make the move to 15# for me, my thought would be to drill the Asylum pin under ring finger trying to create an even predictable benchmark roll, drill the Hyper-cell with pin over emphasizing the long and strong for when they are flooded, but what to do with the Uproar? Skid flip for when they dry up or something else? Suggestions appreciated.

I would do a google search on "Storm VLS" and use that to give you a layout to use.

All you do is fill in the info as to how you want the ball to behave and it spits out the layout for you based on your specs to give you the best possible reaction with the given info.

I have used it the last few bowling balls and have shot 1615 over my last 6 games (271 average) so I can say so far its working really well for me.

Maybe it's just my completely novice eye, but a lot of that video looks like he's struggling to get that ball down the lane to the pocket.

He does seem to be but I am not sure why because I didn't have that problem on anything I threw the Hyper Cell on.

Even threw it on Wolf one night.
