Finally, it's here! The new season, along with the inaugural WSOB, started this week. As I'm writing this, Bill O'Neill and Rhino Page are bowling a one-game tiebreaker to determine who will get the fifth and final TV spot. Tommy Jones just shot a 300 in the position round to leap past both of them and knock off Osku Palermaa, who was aiming to make his first show since the 2004 US Open. The other 3 are a dream matchup of some of the best-known names on tour: Walter Ray Williams, Chris Barnes, and Pete Weber.

UPDATE: Bill O'Neill just defeated Rhino Page to gain the last TV spot. Argh... now we'll have to wait til November to watch it.

Yawn wake me up when it's november, nobody is going to remember any of this by the time the show rolls around. Doing it this way will make it anticlimactic. Just because Tommy Jones is on top of his game now doesn't mean he will be bowling well in November, anything can happen between now and then. I just hope Bill O'neil remembers he made the show and wakes up that morning, I may just sleep in.

Well, at least the shows will be taped in September and not November. But you have a good point there, Jim. Who knows if someone's going to get injured or otherwise not physically or mentally prepared when the finals finally roll around in September.

I'm starting to get around to the WSOB concept. A whole month of nothing but bowling has its appeals. I'm just worried that the loss of stops will reduce the number of participants (those who bowl only part-time and can't take 2 weeks off work to attend the WSOB).

Great tournament in August and it's a secret? Until November? Who thought that would be a good idea?

I enjoy watching some of the old matches on ESPN Classic. But heck, winter leagues are starting. Wouldn't it make sense to start broadcasting the current matches at the same time?
