I wanted to know what if anything would happen if you place the thumb hole left or right of the center of the finger holes.. I hear that if you put the thumb hole more under your ring finger you get more palm in the ball.. Put the thumb more under the middle finger you get more axis rotation.. Does either of these positions help me come off clean and get more lift?

Your ball is drilled to your correct span, you can't really do what you're describing. When your span is taken, there's a measurement from your ring finger to your thumb and from your middle finger to your thumb. If you move the thumb in either direction, you change the measurements. What you'll end up with is a finger to long, a finger to short, or even both.

Rob, you were probably reading about lateral pitches on the thumb, not the actual location of the hole, which is what Lefty was (correctly) speaking about.

Re: lateral pitches, they should be set based on comfort, and the bowler should manipulate their release to get the desired roll. What good is a little more axis rotation if your knuckle is rubbed raw by the improper pitch?
