Ollie Harbin of Lee's Summit, Mo., became the oldest woman to roll a 300 game when the 81-year-old bowler achieved the feat July 8 in the Summer Series Mixer League at AMF West Lanes in nearby Overland Park, Kan.

Harbin, who also had a 300 game at age 77 in 2005, moved past Shirlee VanDenBurg who rolled 300 at age 80 in Battle Creek, Mich., last November. Another Lee's Summit bowler, Lois Morgan, held the record before VanDenBurg with a 300 at age 79 in 2004.

"I was just relaxed," said Harbin, who is featured in the Faces in the Crowd section of the Aug. 3 issue of Sports Illustrated magazine. "Sometimes I get nervous but I didn't this time. I didn't even think about it until the last shot."

Harbin's 300 game opened her day and was followed by 235 and 244 for a 779 series, the sixth best three-game set for a senior bowler. She narrowly missed becoming the oldest woman with an 800 series.

"I pulled the ball on my last shot and it went through the nose," said Harbin, who had a 690 series with her 300 in 2005. "But I can't be too disappointed. I had three good games this time instead of just one."

Wow, a 779 series is pretty impressive no matter who you're talking about, even on a house shot (ok, maybe except Chris Barnes or Parker Bohn and others). Maybe she can pull off an 800 before too long.
