Do you all think a wrist brace would be a good investment for a woman bowler so as to counteract some lack of strength in the wrist she may have. I have seen many women bowlers use them, pros as well, i assume so they can use a bit heavier equipment and not mess up their release. My wife is considering this now as she becomes a bit fatigued after a couple of games and her wrist starts to get a bit flimsy in terms of a good straight follow through for her. What do you all think? Good idea, or I know many are against them in general. I personally dont think they are a bad idea at all especially if you arent someone who cups your wrist and does a bunch of different positions with your hand/wrist in your release. She pretty much comes 6 oclock to about 4 oclock with her release and keeps it straight. Good idea?

For women, there's only so much muscle build up they can do, unless they are really dedicated to specifically working out for bowling.

I don't think its a crime to use a wrist brace. I use a pro form positioner, its not a totally inflexible brace. I can bowl without it, but its presence reminds me to keep my wrist firm and not start doing funny things with it that will lead to inconsistencies.

I think probably in your wife's case she's not interested in working out at the gym doing arm exercises and wrist curls. She probably wants to enjoy the sport at a level the is somewhat competative but yet mostly social with you. Am I guessing right? So a brace might be a good idea. I wouldn't try any of the plastic bionic braces. A pro form positioner like I have goes down past the wrist and lends some support. One tip I use....the bar inside comes out. Its straight. But you can bend it (shhhhhhh don't tell anyone) to a slightly cupped position.

LOL. Great, Erin. you are correct. She really wants to stick to bowling 14lbs ball, and doing it at a social/partially competitive level. Working out the wrist is not on the agenda.
thanks

I agree with Erin. There are a few women in my leagues who want to be competitive but are fairly petite and have no intentions of bulking up. The one's who wear a wrist brace get better rotation on the ball and also don't complain about their arm feeling as tired at the end of the night.

A wrist brace should be worn by anyone who has a weak wrist that is broken back in the swing, unless they are trying to throw a straight ball.
