I have watched the pros like Norm Duke or Walter Ray live by the motto straighter is greater.. My problem is that I cant get is straight enough... I try to play straight up ten.. I mean throw the ball in a straight line up ten then the ball will turn about 40 feet down the lane.. I might get one or even two shots to do that but most of the time I end up getting the ball out. So it skids and never recovers.. I want to be able to play straight up the boards or even give it a little angle to the left because I am not a high rev player.. I am playing a shot with out of bounds. So this makes bowlers that swing the ball have to be more accurate. If I swing the ball out instead of playing within the area that is given to me the ball just keeps on going with no come back. I can play angle shots pretty well but these shot where I have little room for error is killing me. What can I do to keep my shoulder or the ball from going to the right and keep it more in a straight line? I tried bringing my push away foot more to the side and not so together and that makes me feel like I am more in line but, I feel very weird standing with my legs not together but, could it be that my Right leg is the key to fixing this problem? If I was to bring the right leg more even with the left or have my feet more open in the beginning and let the swing leg swing more at six o'clock instead of seven or eight would that do the trick... Please help...

As for your feet, the most important thing you need to do is have your right foot(assuming you are a 4 stepper) step directly in front of your left foot. This will get your hip out of the way and allow the ball to go straight back and not around your body, which would cause the ball to go behind your back.

I had this problem when I was a kid, my coach had me stand on the 6 board and aim for the one board, and try to hit the 10 pin with the ball (right handed). It took all summer and I severely dinged up a ball with all of the gutter shots so don't use a ball you don't want to get damaged.

A good coach will help shorten the amount of learning time, let me know if you need help finding one.

Adding to Jim's suggestion... try using the dots between the foul line and the arrows as your aiming point instead of looking at the arrow zone. And don't be afraid of throwing gutter balls. Gutter balls in practice don't mean squat.

I already use the dots right after the foul line.. What can I can I start practice on to get myself to play the tight lines when they do come up.. My biggest problem is that my shoulder keeps opening up at time of release so that sends the ball out too much to the right alot of the time... Everyone talks about opening up your shoulder, I want to keep it more closes to stay more in one area.. Example, I was standing on thirty looking at twenty5 lookin at twenty so I wont get it out past 15 about fouty feet down.. but I still tend to get it out... Please help..

Rob183: In all seriousness, I'd suggest a visit to the Kegel facility near Orlando. They have inexpensive Friday clinics twice a month. I'd bet that they could get you going on this.
Working with a coach is going to be the best way for you to lerarn how to play the twig IMHO.
