Can anyone whos bowled at Greenway lanes in Odenton, md tell me what the lane conditions are? Ive bowled in a league there and practice there alot, and it would seem to me the lanes are heavy oil but im not an expert all i know is my ball usually comes back with a ton of oil on it. I own 2 balls a #15lb 900 Global Creature S40 i got about 3 months ago drilled at crofton classics Pro Shop for me and an old hand me down Columbia 300 Reaction Roll ball which I had drilled for me aswell. The reaction roll has seen quiet a few games in its time and soaks up a ton of oil havent throw it in a while but is still in fair condition. The creature i realease out at the 20th board (righty) i usually try to throw no further out then the 15th-14th board if im lucky the ball will go slightly brooklyn and hit with a good amount of backend for strikes. Ive thrown alot of balls that have hit the pocket and leave solid 10s sometimes even 9-10s. There are time my ball will go out to about the 12th board and just sail on by missing the pocket. So im wondering if maybe im just not using the right ball for the conditions. Ive tried moving left to the to 25 and ball goes out to 15/14 and doesnt react until late missing the pocket. Ball is supposed to be for light/medium oil maybe not the best ball to use for that house. Should give the Columbia 300 React Roll a shot its a heavy oil ball, clean it up a bit. And if so how do i play it? Should i play it to the right maybe somewhere from 15 to 10?

Its been a really long time since i bowled out there. It sounds like you may be struggling with the line a bit though. If you are coming up light or its not getting to the head pin then yes play to the right. Assuming you are right handed, I would say move your feet right and stand bout the 20 board. At least thats where I would stand lol.

I think you need to move everything right. If your ball isn't getting out past the 12th board, you aren't using the dry part of the lane. On a house shot, there is a puddle of oil in the middle of lane, and near dryness out near the gutter. The trick is to play the part of the lane where the oil tapers from wet to dry.

Try going straight up 8 and see what happens. If it strikes, great. If it goes high, move your feet left 2 boards with your target moving left 1 board and see if you can find a good line there. If it comes in light, try moving right with your feet and target 1 board at a time until you get out to the first arrow. If you've still got nothing, I'd probably have to roll a ball to give more advice.

Leaving some 10 pins is better than aiming up the middle and hoping for a brooklyn (IMO). You mess up going for the brooklyn, you end up with splits, or 5-9, a very choppable spare. 10 pins are easy. Also, a 9-10 is a not a solid pocket leave. That ball came in too high, and split. If you hit your mark and leave a 9-10, you need to adjust.

I agree with the above.

You are playing right in the most flooded area of the lanes, which is reason enough for the ball to go straight. Move out and play more the Track area (12-8) at the arrows. I would start at the right end of it and see how that goes, then move in or out as needed.

I agree as well. If you are not getting the ball out beyond 15 then you are still in the heavy oil area of a house shot.

YOu don't mention what board you are starting on. But if you are releasing at 20 I'd move the whole program, feet and target 10 boards to the right and start there.

This is common for me when palying the inside line (throwing down the center of the lane towards the gutter and then hooking strongly back to the pocket). The reason is that the oil is longer in the center on a THS, so the ball has less distance to lose energy on the dry back end and do its hook thing. I find that I have to be more precise with speed, juice, and aim when playing down the middle or inside shots.

By juice, I mean the amount of "oomph" I add to the revs to increase the hook. I've seen pro's do exactly that. They're throwing across the lane, then the critical frame comes late in the game and they blow right by the pocket. They "dropped the ball", meaning that either they'd been adding oomplh, a la Ryan Shaeffer, or they used firm or cupped wrist and then the wrist went limp at just exactly the wrong time during the release, taking the hook out of the shot. It just requires more concentration is all.

But as with all the rest, I agree that 8-12 is the place to be - throw straight down whichever board you choose, and adjust from there. Alternatively, aim at 10 pin from various starting positions and forget the arrows entirely. Then adjust based on results - if light, go right (for a righty).

It's also been about a year since I last bowled at Greenway and I was in the midst of making some changes to my game as well as having a new grip fit, and it was mid-day so I'm not sure what the conditions were really like. The only time before then that I went it seem pretty heavy. I was using my Scorchin Inferno and having to play up the 8 board or so and still coming in light at times, and had to point some of the other balls I had at the pocket.
