I got a lot more Brooklyn strikes today, it's as if I'm aiming for it...thats just the most effective way for me to roll.I devoted maybe half a post to it in my blog

i tryed for a brooklyn today with my old t-zone ball today. got it but i tryed again and i took out the 4 and 7. sometimes its hard to hit your target but it's still fun to see if you can. i took out the 7 by its self and the 10 on the next frame. then tryed for the brooklyn again and hit the 4-7 again. so i'm just wondering why brooklyns make people so up set. i can hit 1 one time and not the next. so luck is a good thing it seems sometimes. but i hit the 1-3 on the next frame and left a solid 8 pin. now thats something you dont see much but it was there. i think that me missing a singel pin spare can make me more mad than a brooklyn. humm this thread makes me wonder about how i aim now. i need to be more accurate on my shots. but thankful when i get a brake. just mostly because i'm not a pro

*bumps old but fun topic* I'm still getting a lot of Brooklyn hits, but changing my line and slowing my swing has helped greatly

To me a brooklyn strike is almost like hitting the pin from off the green and the ball goes in. You got lucky, you take the point, but you know you didnt mean to do it, nor are you sure you could again if you tried.

Its all part of the game, I don't get upset if someone carries Brooklyn because I know that I have tripped out the 4-9, bucket, or sent a messenger across to take out the ten so its just different forms of luck.
Less consistant bowlers get more brooklyn "lucky" strikes.
More consistant bowlers get more trip 4's, 10's "lucky" strikes.
The margin between a good strike and a lucky strike narrows as one becomes more versed in the game. A good bowler might call a shot that he/she missed by a half board inside lucky, while a marginal bowler might call a strike that he/she missed the head pin lucky. Its all in the eyes of the athlete.

Bowling is a stochastic activity (round ball, round pins, very subject to variables), and winning is a matter of improving the odds. Otherwise, someone would come along and bowl one perfect game after another.
When I throw my (right-handed) helicopter, it works better on the brooklyn side (thrown from the right side of the lane tothe 1-2 "pocket"). In fact, just this past weekend, someone looked over at my lane due to the loud noise.

To me, one or 2 brooklyn strikes is no biggie. I hate when I get one, but I will take it. The only thing that frustrates me is when someone is getting 6 or 7 per night and thinking they are good. I had a guy on my team who is about a 150 bowler and was insanely inconsistent who would get more brooklyn than pocket strikes and he thought he was better than sliced bread. Fortunately I got on another team in the summer, he comes up to brag to me about his 170 average the first week and I tell him to relax its only one week, I am happy, but let's see you do it over 13 weeks. Needless to say, his average is now 148 and I'm well over my average at 205. I wonder what he will say to me this week.
Haha the first guy sounds like me, except i know how much i need to work on my game. I scraped a 400 series today and am pretty proud of it, and then i come here and read about 300's and 800 series... I just use it as motivation. Since I started keeping Track, my avg. is about 130, every once in a while I'll rip off a blazing 160 :P

There are times when carrying Brooklyn appears to be a better overall shot than getting to the pocket and the risk of leaving corner pins. And, I have heard stories of bowlers purposely trying to play a Brooklyn line, but it's just talk.
Carrying Brooklyn is the result of an inaccurate, poorly executed shot. AND, if a bowler purposely attempted playing a Brooklyn line, they would end up scoring lower, OVERALL. Yes, as with hitting the pocket, there will be times when individual games will be higher than trying to hit the pocket, but overall there will be a scoring decrease.
The unfortunate part, is that with modern high end bowling balls, there is not a premium on accuracy, otherwise there would be NO Storm Virtual Gravity. Also, it's why the average house shot bowler, even with a Virtual Gravity, may try his luck on PBA patterns or a sport shot, BUT will quickly discover they need to learn the value of accuracy and improving their game, to learn how to hit the pocket consistently.
And, as a bowler's overall average increases, so does their ability to hit the pocket consistently, thus eliminating the need to carry Brooklyn. BUT, as always, there will be times when a bowler makes an errant shot and crosses over. We all carry an occasional Brooklyn strike, but when a bowler does it consistently, because of inaccuracy, that's why they don't get the respect.
