Hi everyone,
I just got my new ball but im not quite sure its the ball for me...im using an Ebonite turbo c 14lbs. i was using a 12 lbs. and 10 lbs house ball(12 lbs first ball 10 lbs spare ball i guess) Im a new bowler and its a finger tip drilled to me. I dont feel i have any control of the ball at all although i know that my form has a good amount to do with it im just wondering if maybe its to heavy for me at this point. im thinking about going down in weight at least until i have better muscle memory but i dont know if it will make a difference either way.

beanies,
First off, welcome to the site.

Now onto the bowling ball. I really do not think the weight should be much of an issue, of course this is assuming you are physically healthy with no major problems. If you are serious about learning the game and becoming well versed in the sport I would highly recommend you getting a coach and taking at least a few lessons. Right now you are still "green behind the ears" and will pick up on the game very quickly with a coach, as there will be little to no bad habits to break. I have had a coach from week 1 of my bowling career and I would never go without one. I wouldn't change a thing in how I came into the game, except maybe getting into it earlier in life.

Posting a video in the "videos" section would also be a benefit for you. I am sure we could help you feel a little more comfortable with your own game, and the new ball as well.

thank you for the welcome..i started taking lessons and plan on continuing to do so...she didnt really say to much about the weight of the ball except for im strong for my size and the weight is throughing off my balance a bit...i also have arthritis in both knees which seems to be an issue in my stance...also patty ann(my coach) wants me to do a 4 step instead of a 5 step approach which is messing me up and also moved me to the right so im on the center dot but im not sure why.

That is an old ball with a very low hook rating. Plus it comes dull. If you do not have enough ball speed then what hook it has will be exhausted by the time it gets to the pins. You might consider having it polished if that is the case.

Keeping your balance has a lot more with technique then ball weight. All changes feel strange and uncomfortable. but you have to trust that the changes the coach is teaching are for the best in the long run for you. Don't feel shy about asking about the new skills. "Why is 4 step better then 5 for me?"

yea its a really old ball...discontinued in 95 i believe it was my husbands ball when he was a kid..lol...i dont seems to have too much trouble hooking the ball just the timing of the hook i guess...it seems like if i miss my mark by the slightest bit the ball goes crazy but i never have a problem hitting the 7 pin..lol..but it frustrates me...my husband knows why and whats going on better than me since im new to bowling and all. he wants to get it polished but i dont really understand the resurfacing of the ball and what it does.

slow ball speed will also make a ball seem erradict. Plus drill pattern and where you are playing on the lane. And if you are a newer bowler then your release is not consistent. So I can see that if you let up at all on the ball it will seem like it goes crazy. You should get it polished. Then the reaction will be delayed and you'll gain length down the lane before it starts to react.

yea im gonna get it polished and see what happens it wont hurt at least try it...i think that its drilled in the wrong spot but i dunno if it would make a difference if it was changed, the guy who drilled it b4 i got it didnt know what he was doing. we figured when i had it filled and drilled that it would be drill in a different spot but he didnt.we had it done by someone else though hes one of the top 5 drillers in the us so i dunno.

beanies, try to avoid moving the holes on the re-drill so the filled holes are in your Track.
