When I last heard about the John Jowdy "All-Miss" Team, in the mid-1990s it had names in it (and former champions) like Bob Vespi (2 titles), the late Jimmy Keeth (1 itile), and Eugene McCune (1 title). I definitely saw all 3 of these guys during the early-mid 1990s and spares were always an adventure with them, as they all lived predominantly by the strike ball.
All three were crankers and combined could never convert spares like Mark Roth used to, IMO the best spare shooter for a power player (Bob Learn Jr. also shot spares well despite being a power player)
John Mazza has always been a solid spare shooter, especially at 7-pins (he's a lefty), when he puts in his last two fingers and thumb in his spare ball and throws a perfect knuckle ball right at the 7-pin dead flush. How do you think he became an 8-time champion during his time on Tour?
