p2,
My wife and I did not bowl in the Scoth doubles events, at the time she was going to collage and the arrival of our third child didn't leave much time. I however did bowl in a Stark County tournament in 1988, I signed up to participate in the doubles event, we placed 21st and I belive there was 421 entries, but I can not remember out of the total how many were in the doubles bracket.
To address your question about what one thing someone would attribute to increasing their average. This is a tough question but after thinking about the tribulations in my game over the years, one thing came screeming out at me, ( Attitude ). Many a pro has mentioned at one time or another to develope and maintain a winning attitude, the lastest release I have read was written by George Freeman I believe. If every time you step up on the approach you think like a winner, tell yourself you are a winner, then the result will be a self rewarding yield.
I will use myself as an example, yesterday my 19 year old son and I went to a house in the Dayton metro area, Polking Marian lanes, this was indeed one of the hardest shots I have bowled on in a long time, the oil was applied flat to about 30 feet, and the lane tech told me he puts down over 20 units, ( off the charts ) then a lighter application the next 20 feet but the out sides were dry, and the last 10 was clean, they are trying a sport shot set up. My first game was a 103, I felt like finding a hole and jumping in, I kept telling myself that if this were a compitiion I will need to find the shot or just consider donating the entry fee I just put out. I kept telling myself this is what they put down so I will
Master it and over come the toughness of it, my second game was a 189, then a 217, 226, and finished with a 199. I was
rolling my blue
Hammer. The shot I found that worked was
rolling straight up between the second and third arrows, med ball speed with all forward roll. the moral here is, I refused to let the condition get me down, and the result was self rewarding, attitude.
Keep going p2, good bowling. Mike
