I have bowled leagues off and on over the years. I have never been an above average bowler best avg. around 160, right now 151. I throw a 15 lbs. Headhunter urethane ball and get very little hook other than right in front of the pins. I know a new ball would help but alas I am married with children and cannot afford it. I am not a power bowler and do not have alot of wrist strength. frown . Now how is that for a project? Any help in getting a more consistant pin count would be appreciated thank you in advance.

Hi Dondo, I hope some of this can be of use to you. I would first try to find a coach in your area. Bowl.com is a good place to search on-line for one or ask some local guys if they know of any. We all started out at the same spot so most are willing to help out. Also read anything and everything you can, there is alot of info on the net including this very site for some of the best tips to help improve little things that you might not have thought about before. And try to get out to throw around 10 games a week to keep your timing. If you are using a four step approach and only get out once or twice a week you might try switching to a five step approach. It's a bit easier to keep your timing and in return will help out on your being a bit more consistant. I've found that most bowlers may have a ball or two sitting around collecting dust just do some asking around and find a ball that will fit your game a bit better than the headhunter you use now. I hope something in here helped you out. Good luck on your progress.

south paw is correct you have to practice alot to be good. but also if you are worried about getting a big hook you are in the wrong ball. you don't need much of a hook to bowl good. the key to bowling is consistantcy if you can strike once great but a perfect game is 12!! so you have to be able to repeat it. but the biggest thing to rais your score is to hit your spares!! ask any one they can tell you spares make the game, strikes will come but till then spare!!
good luck

Thanx!! If there is one thing I have heard consistantly from the bowlers on my league and on messages boards is: "pick up your spares and strikes will happen". so thats what I'm going with and we'll see what happens.

Thanks for your help
