With the new season on the horizon, what are college bowlers doing to prepare themselves for the grueling travelling and bowling? Where are most teams going for their first tournament? And last but not least, where will the 2002 IBC's be held... i know they're going to be in Buffalo, NY but where?

Well, I guess my summer was just like the season in terms of preparation. Bowl 6-7 days a week for at least 2hrs. a day, plus my "spare routine," twice a week. As far as traveling, just getting used to sitting for long periods of time, so I sit in front of the T.V. and watch old PBA Telecasts.
I believe our first tournament is Mid-States, then we headed to the Brunswick Great Lakes Classic, but not for sure yet, plus I just want to make the team, as always. I am not for sure what the center's name is but I hear it could possibly have HPL's in it, YIPPIE, yes I like HPL's. What is everyone else up too?

Practice, practice, practice, especially on spare shooting. Do as much bowling as possible and get yourself into a routine.
Support your teammates and don't compete against them. They are your adversaries, not your enemies. I see way too much of that in collegiate bowling.

Word on the street is IBC in Buffalo will be at Transit Lanes. You can take a peek at the center at www.transitlanes.com. Hear its pretty nice there.

Best of luck this season to all participants. Should be an exciting one with many changes in some of the top teams. laugh

True you see that in collegiate bowling because there are no leaders to lead their team. It's a bunch of individuals just bowling and partying together. Any how, there are some teams with good chemistry and winning tournaments have shown that.

By the way bowl4life, your adversary is your enemy.

I stand corrected! Thank you iumatrix. Glad you at least knew what I was trying to say.

I totally agree with you. Its the teams with good chemistry that are the most successful. The teams with the big egos generally struggle, especially in a Baker format where there is no room for egos.

I think a good team leader is one that is not only liked and respected by his teammates, but able to convey his thoughts and suggestions to his teammates without being a **** about it. He also needs to set an example with good practice habits and a willingness to help his teammates. In my experience as a coach I have found that the "quiet" leaders, in the sense that they are not overbearing and controlling, are the most effective ones.

Thanks for setting me straight. shocked

That will do for now, but sometimes your ally becomes your enemy eek

The Hoosiers will start our season at the Brickyard... no not the NASCAR race, but the tournament held at Sport Bowl where the Hoosier Classic was held in the past. The Hoosier Classic will be held in February at Woodland Bowl... a much bigger place and where the pros bowl when the stop is in Indy laugh

What's everyone think of the season so far? Before the season even started, posts were coming in left and right. Now that we got what we wanted not a single post has found its way on here? Rankings are up, collegebowling.com is working...?
