Does YABA have a rule against YABA members smoking while bowling? If they don't why not?

A few years ago, they had a comment (not a rule) in the rule book about "no smoking in the vicinity of youth bowlers" but it was removed.

Why? My guess is that sanctioning bodies have limited authority over the way a center does business. (Note that they also do not attempt to restrict the sale of alcohol or dictate the disabling of video games.)

Why not put it in the LOCAL youth league or tournament rules? If the center has a lounge, the smoking could be restricted to that area. If not, ban it all together.

Good luck,

In our center, parents must go in the back and smoke, and we are not allowed to show any signs of affection either. crying

In tournaments, Rule 406 prohibits "using tobacco products or alcoholic beverages" while in competition; Rule 805 prohibits adults or non-competitors from the "Use of tobacco products in the area where YABA athletes are competing". Plain and simple, you can't smoke in the area, including the concourse, where a YABA tournament is being conducted. For regular league bowling, it will be at the center and/or youth director's discretion.

I'm the Youth Director.. it is stated in our rules that there is no smoking during our Saturday Am Youth program.. if they must smoke, they have to go outside to do it. We put signs on the windows and at the front desk regarding the no smoking policy. Our house is 60 lanes, of which we use 40-45 lanes during our Saturday morning program.

Our Scratch Scholarship League on Wednesday nights, they are asked to step away from the program or do it at the service bar. We can't ban it all together on Wednesday nights as there alot of open bowlers and an adult league at the opposite end of the house. This is also stated in our league rules. We do have youth bowlers over the age of 18 in our program that, by law, are adults and choose to smoke. They are not allowed to during league play due to our no smoking policy in our league rules.

When I was in the youth league at my bowling center for about 7 years, it was enforced that there was to be no smoking by the youth bowlers. I was happy about that because I don't really care for the smell of smoke. Everyone seemed to wait until they were done and went outside. But now I'm trying to find a league that I can join of sub in. All because I bowled in the adult division (can't complain.. I got 500 dollars richer.. hehehe)

Hmm… I am going to be opinionate on this subject since I feel that smoking does not affect one person’s ability to play. At the same time, I can understand the distraction from the cigarette’s smell, smoke in the air and personal beliefs.

But I know YABA can not enforce the rule if you playing to bowl for fun and not for money. It should be up to the center and not the YABA director to make those rules in effect. But the YABA director should encourage bowlers to avoid doing it as it would be unprofessional on their behalf if they were representing them in a tournament.

In Canada, there are no-smoking bylaws. So, don’t be surprise.

I think lanes with a non-smoking policy are a bit unfair to the smokers... obviously i am one lol... but i can understand not smoking by kids, as long as you can run in the bar or a lounge for a quick smoke... i know if i'm bowling bad i need a cig or two to get through it

Were we bowl on Friday afternoon you can't smoke if your less than 3 lanes away from the high school bowling teams.

Sat is youth bowling for half the alleys and there is no smoking until 6 pm. Now I smoke and it gives me a break to step into the bar or outdoors to smoke and "get my head together".

Now if I am in Eugene Or. there is no smoking in-doors at all. That "sucks". But you can still go outside and smoke.
