Just received the following press release. Too bad airfares aren't so great that weekend.

CHRIS BARNES THANKSGIVING YOUTH CLASSIC OFFERS $20,000 IN SMART SCHOLARSHIPS
USBC Sport Bowling event also features optional Junior Gold qualifying opportunity

DALLAS, Texas - High school aged bowlers will compete for a guaranteed total of $20,000 in scholarship awards in the Chris Barnes Thanksgiving Youth Classic, to be held Nov. 23-27, 2005 at Don Carter's All Star Lanes West in Dallas. The scratch tournament, certified by the United States Bowling Congress and to be conducted on challenging USBC Sport Bowling lane conditions, will award scholarships to at least one in every 10 bowlers entered. Participants also may compete in an optional USBC Junior Gold qualifying event for an additional fee.

Named after USBC's spokesperson for its Sport Bowling program, the Chris Barnes Thanksgiving Youth Classic offers two average-based divisions and 10 different qualifying squad times, ranging from 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 23 to the 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26 re-entry squad. Four games of qualifying will result in one of every eight bowlers in each division advancing to the semifinals. The four-game semifinal round will start at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26. The top 12 in each division advance from the semifinals to the eight-game match play finals, slated to begin Sunday, Nov. 27 at 9 a.m.

First place $2,000 scholarship prizes will be awarded in each of the two average-based divisions, along with multiple other place prizes to total at least $20,000 in scholarship awards. All awards will be held in USBC's SMART (Scholarship Management and Accounting Reports for Tenpins) Program until winners are ready to use them for their college expenses.

Entry forms for the Chris Barnes Thanksgiving Youth Classic can be printed from the Elite Bowlers Tour Web site, elitebowlerstour.com, which also includes explanations of the tournament's various entry fee levels and information on merchandise awards offered by tournament sponsors. Questions and tournament entries should be directed to Tournament Director Jim Welch. He can be reached by phone at (214) 358-1382, e-mail to jtwelch@mindspring.com, or at Don Carter's All Star Lanes West, 10920 Composite Drive, Dallas, TX 75220.
