To try out for Team USA, first you must bowl in a local qualifier. If you win that qualifier, you get a free entry into the State Amateur Championships, You can buy your way into States for $100 whether you bowled in a local qualifier or not.
At the State level, the winner gets all expenses paid into the National Amateur Championships in Reno in December. One out of every ten bowlers at the State level will get a free entry into Nationals, but only the winner gets all expenses paid. You can buy your way directly into Nationals for $250 if you bowl the State Finals and do not qualify, or for $350 if you do not bowl the State Finals.
At Nationals, the top 5 bowlers are automatically on Team USA for the upcoming calendar year. The Selection Committee then selects 3 additional bowlers from the people who made the cut (top 32) to round out both the men's and women's teams at 8 bowlers apiece.
