Does anyone bowl in a no tap league? How do you usually do compared to your regular average? I've been looking at my regular series compared to no tap (since there is a tournament that based off no tap vs your average and is based on pins over average) and Im running a 185 average in the league and about 235-240 no tap over the last 4 weeks.

I haven't bowled in a no-tap league, but have done that tournament you are referring to. I'm guessing you are bowling at an AMF house as that is who does it around me. I was hit and miss depending on how bad I was bowling.

I haven't yet but just found out the adult youth league we just signed up for is no tap. It will probably be fun but I would rather my son get to shoot at his spares, that is why we signed up for a summer league to continue his growth as a bowler.

I don't want to back out though due to them so far not having a lot of teams I don't want to ruin the fun for other youth bowlers that are just starting to bowl.

9 Pin no Tap will let you learn how to strike. It will help you with adjusting your strike shot. You don't have to wait for one pin spares. Its not optimum, but its also not horrendous either. Have fun. If you leave mostly 9 counts then you should be in the 250s all of the time. Otherwise, you know that you need to better your strike shot, or should I say keeping your ball in the pocket. Because if your ball is in the pocket all of the time, you will leavue 9 counts or maybe 8s. No Tap will get you to keep your ball in play.

If its league, then its once a week. Not taking your spares, once a week, won't kill you. It'll tell you that you need to work on keeping your ball in the pocket. You can work on individual spare conversions another time.

Mattdean, that sounds about right... about 40 to 60 pin difference between notap and league average, depending on how consistent your strike shot is. Sometimes, if your strike shot is hurting, you may not see much avg. difference at all.

I don't play in a notap league, but our house has a colorpin notap event every Saturday Night that my wife and I attend about once every 3 weeks. I regularly can pull out 250+ games even with the lights turned down and the music up. Threw a 829 last Saturday Night... which I only pay attention to because of the small side pots they run for Series Totals.

In any case, it is fun to bowl for a change of pace. The only disadvantage to it as far as using it for a training tool is that it broadens your target zone, as you can get credit for a strike while leaving lazy corner pins, or a bit high 4's or 6's. You do not have to be as precise or make as many adjustments.

Last year? Not pretty. No high scores worth posting from 15-16. But good times ahead. smile

I was in the pocket all night and I typically am. If I miss, it's my fault for putting the ball in the wrong spot. I don't have trouble with any spares other than a 10 pin, but it does give me a little more confidence. Only thing I dont like is that with a higher average it is hard to win a no tap tourney.

I have bowled in a no tap tourny that was handicapped and I won, although its the only time I have ever bowled in one. I am a 215 average and I shot 300-300-278. I got soft in the 4th frame of the last game and left a 4-7. The worst part was that most of my strikes were actual strikes, so of course I bowl at my best when I just needed to keep it in play haha. I think the 170-180 average bowlers should have a big change in average though because of the fact that most of the average being there is missing spares. Most bowlers at that average keep the ball in play but miss a few single pins. I think you will have fun with it!
