This was my first time videoing myself and a few things come to mind just to my untrained eye.

My feet are flapping all over the place at all angles, no wonder i have trouble finishing with my left foot in a nice straight slide.

It seems like I kick my body sideways to balance the swinging of the ball, i need to be more square and straight with the lanes right?

Any help will be appreciated muchly.

Your lower body is going right, your upper body is twisting left as you release the ball.

You are almost side arming the release.

I doubt your ball fits your hand properly, it looks like you are grabbing the ball severely in the swing. Grabbing is almost always caused by a feeling that if you didn't grab the ball it would fall off your hand.

Try straightening your upper and lower body and keep your hand behind the ball and find an IBPSIA certified ball driller to fit your hand properly so you don't have to squeeze the ball so much. Also don't try to hook the ball and just let it roll off your hand.

You want to square yourself towards your target. Only if you were playing up the boards would you be square with the lane. The only other thing I want to comment on is your trail leg. I think you should lead with the toe rather than the heel. The way you're doing it now has your hips opening up too much. So point that toe away from you when you sweep it across.

My ball fits really well I think, I don't even have to squeeze it to get it to stay on, will hang from my hand while relaxed.

I definitely know what you mean about not trying to hook the ball, I can tell the difference between when I let it roll off and when I twist my wrist, both hook, one is forced and causes me to lose accuracy and skid more.

Is my arm swinging too far behind my body instead of straight back? Kinda looks like it to me. I think I am throwing myself off a bit with my footwork, or it could just be the way I am [censored] my body around that throws off my approach.

Any input on step speed, and the tempo/timing of my swing/release

That stuff is best seen from the side. Shoot a vid from the side.

Try not squeezing the ball and let the ball drop from your left hand into the swing without catching it and pulling it back. If the ball hits the floor, then it doesn't fit properly.

Thanks coach, I will shoot a few from the side next time.

Here is a video of what you asked for I believe. (it should be up in a minute or two, still processing)

Here is a shortened down video with my swing/release.

And by not squeezing the ball, Jim means not trying to hang on to it at all. Let your arm swing just from the force of gravity and use no muscles to hang on to the ball or swing it. If it doesn't fall off, then it fits well.

I couldnt do a full swing in the house for fear of killing the cameralady or the cats, but Im fairly sure that was a relaxed grip, even put my index and pinky to show i wasnt gripping, though i suppose I still could have been smile

My thumb was a few sizes too small the first time around and I used to have to put a death grip on it, and now its a hair away from being too tight, if I put some new-skin + patches on it is just tight enough to pop sometimes.

I couldn't see the first video, it doesn't matter anyway.

You slide to the left instead of sliding in front of your right foot, this is what's causing your lower body to twist to get out of the way of the ball.

I met with a USBC Bronze coach today and he gave me a lot to practice on. I will post a video in a week or two to see where I've improved.

Thanks for all the feedback!
