#85075 - 03/23/09 02:15 PM Ball slipping off thumb

Folks, I'm going crazy trying to figure out why I will inexplicably lose the ball at release. It will happen once or twice in a series where the ball feels like it just slips off my thumb and head straight into the ditch. It always seems to happen coming off of a mark so it kills my chances to roll clean games. I try to keep the thumbhole as tight as possible using tape and the magic carpet so that I eliminate squeezing the grip. Is it possible that I need more forward pitch or is there any other kind of adjustment that I can make to eliminate this problem? I'm currently using a 1/4" of reverse pitch in my thumbhole.

I would say adding forward pitch is probably the right way to go. Just remember that for every 3/8 forward you add you should shorten your span by an 1/8.

+1 to Sk8. This is assuming your span is correct already.

Try less bevel, the ball is probably slipping because it is not locked in because the edge has been beveled off, if not then go more forward and make sure your span is right.

If it is only happening once or twice in a series it is possible you are still squeezing the ball. Sounds as if you get relaxed and the ball slips. Just a thought, definetly not contradicting the pitch.
