Just got back from the USBC in Vegas. They were tough, as usual. There was a shot straight up about 10 or 11, but there was definitely an out of bounds to the right of that. The carry was good, and as always corner pins were an interesting adventure. The 10 pin was a normal pickup, but the spares on the left were tricky with a late hook to them. The S & D they hooked more and by the end of doubles I had to switch to an inside line. By the 5th game they started hooking earlier and it was hard to stay off the nose. At least we had a good time. We stayed at the Sahara and they treated us well.It was a quick 10 minute trip up Las vegas boulevard by cab. With 4 in the cab it was about $4 apiece tip included.

Thanks for the info Jaws. I have seen people from time to time play outside. If you go straight up the boards, there is a line. If your ball has any amount of swing to it out there, your in trouble.
4 people in a cab? Was the truck bottoming out?

LOL Only for the team event. There were plenty of lockers, so we kept our equipment there afterwards

Good info Jaws. Like last year, straight up 10. I bowl with a fellow who uses a severe inside line, outside 30. Last year, his first 4 balls went right into the channel. He had to move right, and this took him right out of his game.
No walled house shot here!!

http://www.bowl.com/articleView.aspx?i=15364&f=1Ron Nelson Jr. of Bridgeview, IL rolled the fourth 300 of the tournament in his second game of doubles on Wednesday, combining with games of 247 and 248 for a 797 (best set of tournament to date) to help take the Regular Doubles lead (with Bryan O'Keefe of Arlington, TX, who had a 671 set in the event). Ron Nelson Jr. also now leads Regular All-Events, and his team, Cambridge 1 out of Feeding Hills, MA, is now in the Team All-Events lead. In other tournament news, Junior Team USA Support also took the Regular Team lead on Wednesday night.

http://www.bowl.com/articleView.aspx?i=15375&f=155-year-old George Kontos of Joliet, IL rolled games of 256, 268, and 277 in his doubles event for the first 800 series of the tournament on Friday. He teamed with his son John, a first-time participant, for a 1,343 score in the event, just short of the top 10. http://www.bowl.com/articleView.aspx?i=15374&f=1On Saturday, Anthony Kastle of Charlotte, NC rolled the third-highest series in Classified Division history, a 723 (201, 268, 254) in his doubles event (Regular Doubles, but Kastle is Classified in singles and all-events) to help him to the Classified All-Events lead.

http://www.bowl.com/articleView.aspx?i=15377&f=1Two bowlers in the same squad, Mike Newman of Council Bluffs, IA and Keith Ubert of Hays, KS, shared the spotlight by rolling 300 games in their team event on Saturday. Newman started his 2009 USBC Open campaign with the 300, while Ubert needed to warm up before getting his in the last game of the squad. The pair was only a few lanes apart, so spectators at their end of the facility got their money's worth. This makes seven 300s so far, nearly twice as many as in the entire run of the 1986 ABC Championships held at the same venue (four).

I thought the shot I practiced on was easier that the shot of last year. Maybe it wasn't? Scores seem to be higher this year.
