The Pearl will get down the lane farther but is going to break harder when it makes it's move. You could try sanding your Solid to 4000 which should get you a bit more length, though maybe not enough. If you were struggling with it early on in league (by early in the 2nd game) then I would say leave it at 2000 grit (the box finish) but put some polish on it. You might need to move right a bit in the first game but the polish will help get the ball down the lane better in the 2nd and 3rd games.

I agree with TenPin, the Pearl would break later but even harder than the Solid. The pearl has a skid/snap reaction while the solid has a little more of an arc to it. That's the nature of pearls and solids in general. Solids are also easier to change the surface on to get a more desired reaction.
