Tim, you gotta include the blind lady on my team. I marvel at her ability in her condition. Although her sight in 1 eye is improving daily, she still can't see things like the dots on the floor. The white pins are just a blotch of color contrast down the lane. She can't read the lane numbers, so she counts the overhead monitors. We put an X in black tape on the floor midway between the rows of dots, in the center. She moves either side of that X for her shots.

When she rolls a ball, she comes back to ask what her ball did and makes the adjustment. When she leaves a pin, she can tell if it is on the left or right side, but has to ask what pin it is. She just makes an adjustment from the X to shoot.

It really helps to have good mechanics.

Thats a great story Dennis. I think thats awsome that she is able to bowl so well in her situation. Having good mechanics is great for her, not to mention patient and caring team mates.

You said her one eye is improving daily. Does she expect to get full use of it again?

Patient and caring!!! You just described me. Heh!

She hopes to get to the point where she can read out of 1 eye, with some hefty lens help, I am sure. She has a glass eye in the other one.

She is a really sweet and fun 33 year old, originally from Michigan. She has no family here, and many bowlers drive her around, or buy groceries for her. She has no want for friends.

On a side note, she was joking with some other bowlers before league. One bowler said something that got her dander, and she responded with a challenge and a wager. He is a, OK I'll say it, fat, long haired guy, but carries better than 210. Dont know what her side of the wager was, but if she won, he had to get a haircut. Her double in the 10th of the 3rd game let her win, 656-650.

He took a lot of ribbing, and one bowler actually went to his car to get a pair of dog clippers.

We'll see if he cuts his hair.

Wow thats awesome Dennis!
We went 7-0 (woohoo!)

Shot 223,198, 160(bah- 5 ten pins missing a few and a pocket 7-10) but we still went 7-0 which we haven't accomplished in awhile. Seemed everyone was having trouble for the 2nd week in a row.

Good for her! Bowls well under pressure too, and she is a Michigander to boot. Hopefully that eye gets better for her.
On a side note,..I always knew bowlers were a good group, as evidenced by the people that drive her around and get the groceries for her.

Nice to hear something positive instead of the doom and gloom that we hear all day long.

Tell yourself you will lose and chances are you will be right. I'm not a "glass half full" kind of guy either but having a better mindset will help you and your team.

My Week 24 bowling (BowlSK)

I was hoping to continue the momentum my 257 of last week gave me, and answered with a 646, my best set of the season. I didn't bowl my best all night, as a first-ball gutter in the middle of the second game attests to, but I had 3 solid games for a change, and only had 3 open frames on the night. Indeed, I was only 20 pins (in the first game) shy of a nice 222 triplicate.

As for the team, we could've given up after losing the first game by 100+, but, as I told my team at the end of the night, I wasn't giving up on the night in my mind. My teammates showed me they weren't giving up, either, as we turned the tables on our opponents to not only take the other two games, but total as well. laugh

195, opened the first with a pocket 7-10. Couple of doubles and stayed clean.
235, clean game but still having trouble stringing anything. I went XX/XX/XX/XX8, each / being a 10 pin.
215, clean game again but no turkeys in sight. Thought I had one, but a 9 pin got hit, fell, and stood up, out of range. Would have been 5 in a row had it stayed down.

So, the only open of the night was a 7-10 in the very first frame for a 644.

We won 5 of 7, but lost ground to the first place team who won all 7 again. They also won the first half, and so far in the second half have only lost 9 points. 5 of them to us. Looks like a runaway for both halves in the league.

A bowler rolled his first ever 300 tonight, and was he excited. Hi fives all over, he ran around the lanes getting congratulations, and waving his hands.
