I was watching the PBA telecast tonight and I noticed that the scores were quite low. The sports condition that they were playing on seemed to be giving them fits. I liked the graphic that showed how league bowlers who competed in this tournament average a good 10-20 pins lower than their leagues.
Although the higher scores and more strikes is more entertaining to watch, I think that the skills of the pros are truly tested when they meet up with a challenging condition liked they faced tonight. A championship with a 190 game may notlook pretty, but 2nd place with a 259 doesn't put as much food on the table either.

This is not a lane condition that you are going to see a lot of strikes on. Its a grinder. I watched some of our best youth bowlers bowl on the sport condition, and with the heavier gold pins, at the YouthMasters in Ohio this summer. I can tell you its not high scoring, and a 1 board mistake will cost you. It will, however, test everyone's skills equally, and accuracy, speed control, and endurance, not power, are going to be the determining factors.

It should prove more interesting to watch in the long run, and it will definitely earn our sport more respect.
