Many changes are just uncomfortable, or feel strange because you are used to doing something else for so long. A trained eye of a coach can usually see something that is awry, and make a recommendation to correct it. It may feel different at first, but it usually becomes more comfortable with practice
But, as I say this, be wary of the coaches who want to rubber stamp clones of themselves. Been there, done that. They usually say, do this like I do, or take the ball from your hand and roll it themself.

Any change that is made is always going to feel weird at first because let's face it, our sport deals heavily in mental concentration and muscle memory. Changing something your muscles aren't used to doing is hard enough as it is and usually requires some degree of practice and the aforementioned mental concentration. I would guess, and this is probably a huge generalization, that the bowlers that are reluctant to embrace or at least try changes made by a coach are probably either bowling for scores or simply lazy ,and I'm not saying that's you at all chipmunk. Especially, seeing how your coach seems to want to correct things like finger position or other little things like that instead of trying to help you free up your swing or correct your timing (I don't know if those are problems that you have, I was just using them for an example).
However, if people do try these changes and can't seem to get them to mesh with their style, then I suppose they could store it in the memory banks in case that information is ever needed.
Again beware of clone makers.
And I'm like Dennis, I hate it when people do things for me. You can show me once but usually I hate it when people do like he's describing and take the ball or Hammer or whatever and say do what I do. It bugs me.

You have to realize that some times coaches are looking to change something that might not be a problem at this point in time, but later in your "bowling career" it could pop up. Now you might lose 10 pins or so a game until the muscle memory resets to a new style or form, but in the future that could be a key foundation for something that adds 50 pins to your average. Most coaches are only trying to make you better, I doubt there are any that are out there to sabatoge you, so just remember even though it might not seem like an important change to you now it could be a very important change later on. Everything in bowling is about timing, every piece is built upon the piece previously laid in place, so if you are trying to muscle the ball, this could the the coaches way of getting you to stop doing that, which will lead to a smooth, clean release. This is the first step to consistant scoring. Without a clean and consistant release, you will always shoot 190's and will never get over the hump. Remember, another set of eyes (that know what to look for is the key) always helps!

yeah, i have 2 coaches, and constantly... Coach 1: You probably need to move right a board or two Coach 2: You need to move about 3-4 boards left It's confusing.

JZenner20, are these the same day on the same lane? If not then both could be correct, as the lanes are different every time you step out on the approach. Maybe one coach is with you right after they oil the lanes and the other coach is with you after its been a couple days since the last strip and re-oil. Just a thought.

Nah, i know what you mean shorty, but its on the same day, same lane haha. Also, i was at a match, and i threw it sorta fast, at least 16-17 mph, and coach told me to slow down, and then, later, i threw it just as fast, and got a strike, and coach told me "that's about perfect". It was the same lane too!

You are not a robot. So they are probably giving your feedback from your previous shots whether they be good shots or bad. What you really need, is not the fix, but the ability to tell when you have thrown a different ball and what was different about it. Not that I expect you to know that right now. But if you have coaches watching you, they should be able to tell. So I don't think either coach has a good eye for the changes you execute from ball to ball (which is normal because we are not robots).
You need to have a starting point, a primary target and a seconday target (usually your break point). And then you need people to be spotting you that can tell if you hit those spots, or sped up the ball, dropped the ball, let up on speed etc......It doesn't really sound like you have good spotters, either one of them.

Did he want you to slow down the ball speed, or your approach? Coaches are there to answer questions too. So ask them if you're not following their intention. My coach tried and tried to fix my problem with my head moving, and he finally realized it was just a part of my bowling that wasn't going to change. So we've worked around it.
