I was just wondering if any of you guys have bowled at the National Bowling Stadium. I plan on competing at the USBC Queens this year, which is at the Stadium. Can anyone give me an idea of the lanes, how they breakdown, etc?

Here are the rules. The only thing mentioned about the oil pattern is that it will be sport bowling compliant. Which means a 3-1 oil ration center to outside. But, the length is not specified.

Last USBC in Reno supposedly had more units of oil then ever before. But, most I talked with found the lanes pretty playable. They do strip and re-oil between sets, so you always have fresh oil to start.

My suggestion, if you don't already, is to bowl on PBA pattern shots for practice as often as you can. Or if there is a house nearby that lays down a Sport shot.

Make sure you have the correct equipment to play the oil. And, a spare ball.

Good luck.

If you are left handed you already have a great advantage.

I've bowled at the Stadium several times, both for league sweepers (house shot) and Nationals. House shot lanes were a pretty nice shot, still lefty dominant.

Since you are talking Queens then i'd imagine that you will not see a lot of plastic balls used for strike balls like I did when I bowled my ONE and ONLY women's Nationals. 10 players on the pair and I had the only reactive equipment. Combine that with the tough national shot and it was pretty miserable. The USBC Open or ABC Nationals is a better shot, since you have less plastic balls being used down the middle. I have not bowled on the Queen's shot so cannot comment on that. But the Stadium is a notoriously left handed house, always has been always will be.

Keep an eye on the bowl.com website, they will have the pattern up in the next week or two.

Lots of oil and lots of fun. Find a house that puts down the shot and do some practicing on them. It will help. It did me anyway!
