OK, I bowled in a handicap tournament today. I bowled in it 2 years ago (when I was much better) and averaged 233 on a Scorpion. Glad I had my USBC number on my Application, cause they changed my average from a Tourney average 233 to my current low 192 to base cap. So I got 34 pins cap at 90% of 230. And, I am not sandbagging, I just am not as good.

I was surprised to find they laid down the Shark pattern. And, glad I brought my dull ball.

I started with my Terminator and bowled a 184, missing a 7 and a 4 pin by sliding right past them to the right, going cross lane through the flood.
Second game, I switched to my TS&A which held a little longer and was not as angular in the back, but still had 2 split opens for a 188.
I changed again to my Conqueror and played 25, over 15 with much better success. But, still had a split open and a miss. Shot 204.

With cap, I had a 678, but was pleased of what I did on the Shark.
Tomorrow is round 2, and the pattern will change. Gotta cut down on my misses.

BTW, this tourney runs 5 weeks. This was week 2 and I sit 15th of 200 bowlers after the first round. I was surprised I was third scratch in the squad, and second with cap.

Wish me luck.

In this politically correct society of today it's not sandbagging, it's average control. Now if I cold just control mine closer to my average.

Good going Dennis, 15th is pretty good. As you already know, you just need to live in the pocket and make the spares.

Jim, the ruling was all repeat bowlers come in with tournament averages. They do check Current USBC averages, and change to it when:
the bowler is +10 current over tournament, or
the bowler is -20 current under tournament.

I bowl in this tournament every 2 years. One year it it South in the State, and the other it is North. I only bowl when it is North, closer to my house. Don't see the value bowling in Marion, Ill and staying for the weekend.

Well, I'm off. Will report later.

All the scores were higher today. The Shark was tough, but the Scorpion should have been much easier. All I can say is, I suck. You can't continue to bowl well with 2 opens every game. Even though I had two sets of 600, I still opened 2 frames each game on average.

I have 1805 for 9 games Scratch. And even with my huge handicap, I dropped to 19 of 200 bowlers. And, there are still 300 bowlers to bowl.

I really don't see any cashing hope.

I just can't pick up spares to save my life. And, that has been going on for over a year. Today was a 10 pin, missing 6 of 9. And, that's with a spare ball. Missed one yesterday, so that's only 3 of 10 that I got. And, I went right passed a 7 twice, oh one was a 4-7. You can't bowl competitively with 7 strikes and 3 opens in a game. It's the difference between a low 200 and a 230 average.

I have really dropped in the past 2 years. And, it's all lack of spares.

I think based on your lack of spare shooting its about time to go to your local house and bowl a few games of doing nothing other than shooting spares. I do that about once a month and my spare shooting is probably at about 96% for single pins. I miss about 1 out of every 11 or so. Just go and shoot the 10 on your first ball, then the 7. After about 3 frames of that switch to the 6 and the 4. Three frames later switch to the 2 and the 3. This should really help you out as I know it does for me.
