What is this with the Rubber ball? I thought they were very old. I will be getting one of those for free. What can I use it for a strike ball or a nice ball for the ten pin?

Now a days mainly as a spare ball. If you have a high rev rate it could probably be used as a strike ball on burnt.

Oh That is good to know. I dont have a high rev rate so I will use it as a spare ball. Thanks for all that information.

Do they hook even less than plastic?

My brother has a rubber ball in my weight that he doesn't use. I asked if I could us it, but he said that it would mark up the lane and most alleys wouldn't allow you to throw it. Is that true?

Yes it is true. Many centers I've bowled at won't allow any ball that leaves marks on the lane / approach, as it not only is an annoyance to clean up, but if you should put the ball down behind the line and it leavs those rubber marks on the approaches it can be a hazard to you and other bowlers.

I've never seen anyone use a rubber ball actually used so I don't know if it's true or not, but as TenPin said if it leaves marks on the approaches can cause hazardous situations and in sanctioned competition it's illegal.

My dad had a rubber ball (I believe he got it in the '70s) that he used up until the mid '90s, when he switched to reactives. He used it when we bowled adult/youth doubles and it hooked, but he had a lot of revs and we also bowled on wood lanes before centers in our area started putting down synthetic. It was shiny and didn't leave marks on the lane/approach.

That being said, I'm not sure I see a reason to own a rubber ball these days.
