Our friday night league has a real strange way of listing (season) individual achievements, such as hi-game, hi-series, hi-handicap game, etc.. They are listed such that every single person shows up on the list in 1 (and only 1) spot. So the highest game probably isn't the true highest game, neither is the 2nd, or 3rd, on and on through every list. I understand why they do this, it's for payouts at the end of the year, so every individual wins something. But come on, listing them on the sheets week by week seems kind of ridiculous to me. Plus I'd kind of like where I truly stand in some of those lists.. doesn't everyone? Even if it's the same 3 people dominating every list, the spread out lists just seem rather pointless to me.

Just wondering if anyone elses leagues do this. What do you think about it? I'm considering changing leagues if I can find a more competitive mixed league that allows some of the more casual bowlers on my league to still have fun while giving some incentive to the more competitive bowlers (me).

Most leagues do that. If you have one dominant player his/her name will litter every category taking away from other's accomplishments. As long as you get your highest game up there you know what you threw and where those scores fall if they aren't represented. I think that's the most fair way they can handle it.

I'd rather see 3 dominant bowlers at the top then top scores that mean absolutely nothing. I guess I just don't get it.

Ty,

Very few casual league bowlers will want to simply donate the prize fund to three dominant players in a league. Even high-end scratch leagues limit the categories you can cash in for the same reason.

My fall league list every week the true highest scores. But at the end of the season you can only cash on one. But I believe is good to have the real scores, because that way it's an incentive for people to be there.

My league also prints a news page where we include the bowler of the week (most pins over average)and all the awards that every single bowler gets in that week if at all. So if a very low bowler gets a 160 game awrd then gets listed there. Also the bowler of the weeks bowls one week for free.

Its a way to share the prize money. Say I bowl an 800 series including a 300 game. I'd pretty much have high game, high series for both men and women and effectively cash in at least 4 spaces. If I did it with a low average I could cash in all the individual award spots. All because of one great night of bowling, everyone else is out of it.

So this is a way to share the wealth a bit. And like Angel says, it would diswade people from bowling in a league as soon as they saw a high average person sign up. Everone in the league knows the better bowlers and those that had fantastic scores. This just shares the $10 or so for individual awards.

In our league, a bowler can win multiple prizes, but they cannot be bowled on the same night. Your 300 game on the same night as your 800 series would only give you one prize. It would either be hi game or if your series gives you more money, hi series.

Most leagues have a budget for hi game payout. It doesn't grow if many get 300. It gets split with 1st, 2nd and 3rd money. Therefore, you might be entitled to more money for hi series, and that's what you will get.

Generally because if you show the people leading those categories on the sheet, they expect a pay out.

On my youth leagues, I list as many categories and places that can fit on the sheet so that the kids see their names "in lights." However, despite warning them numerous times over the season, the kids get only one trophy each per season, regardless of how many places they or their team finish up.
