Last night was one for the ages. My partner and i has built up a 26-2 matych play record so far in the second half and in first by about 8 games of so. We were playing the third place team, which happened to come in second last half. Their two bowlers (Two man teams) had 198 and 233 averages, and myself and my partner carry a 223 and 229 average- so we knew there would be fireworks- On a side note, the 198 average meant we gave them 10 pins a game- which was a far cry from the 80 or so we give a game on a weekly basis.

The gentleman with the 233 average on the other team starts off with a 300- which would normally be a big deal, but he already has 3 this season. His partner bowled a 244 giving them a 544 total- OUCH. My partner and I bowled a 490+ and still got whupped.

The second game, my partner and I managed a 475 total- BUT, this gentleman bowled ANOTHER 300! Not to mention his partner bowled in the 230's- well above average again and a 530+ total.

In a historic third game, the gentleman with 2 300's started out with the first two-26 strikes in a row, but had a couple misteps the next couple frames and finished with a 233. Far less than what he should have had given how he was throwing last night, but his partner was there to pick him up with a 260 game.

All I know is that they finished the night around 1560 as a total. Thats a 260 average for both of them. My partner and I were around 1470 and thought we bowled pretty well. I maintained average with about 227 a game and my partner bowled a bit above his.

Overall, a fun night, but one of those "What can ya do except watch" kind of nights. Anyone else have a story like that? it would be fin to hear about either a great night by you or someone you bowled against...

Not much you can do when that happens other than tip your hat and extend your hand to them. I have been on both ends of that. In a Singles league years ago, I shot 246, 299, 246 for a 791 against a buddy of mine who shot 680+. On the other side, my team shot 1100 at a tourney and got beat by the 3 teams around us by a lot.

Just go back to it next week.

This Saturday.. in my other thread I talked about my friend who bowls.. well we went against his team.

My team was full of rolloffs. 50 pins over for one, 30 pins for another and then the third was down by 9 pins.. so we still had a big lead. I threw 21 pins over my average the first game but the other team...

First kid threw 7 pins over, second threw a 187 which is 30 pins over. third kid threw a 167 with a 142, the girl threw a 160
134 which was 8 under and the last kid threw a 194.

we lost by 4 pins. then it only got worst.. our roll offs went down a few they win by 70. three/four of my team rolled over average. Last game they won by 30 off of me missing an open in the 10th right off the back.. was a 2-4-5 I believe.

I had to throw 20 pins over two games and then miss my average by 5 and watch us lose.. things just happen..

(but i'll say it was a fluke)

i think there was one instance this year where my best game, which was something around 230, was the only game we lost out of four, when the other two (and total pinfall) for me were 30 or so under average.

One night a guy who was averaging 183 threw a 247 and 246 at us. The last game he cooled off and then one of his other teammates had a game way over their average. It is funny how that happens sometimes.

I'd rather put up great scores and get out bowled than bowl bad and just give the games away. I say good bowling on both sides intheZone82.

I can't think of any similar stories recently but in my Saturday 5 person mixed league, most of the games my team has been involved in have at least been close with maybe 10-15 being over well before the tenth frame.

I'm with you on that one. If I go out and bowl great but I/we just get flat out bowled so be it. It can ALMOST be an enjoyable night with big scores like that all around. Of course we'd all like to be on the winning end of that at least once. Either way it sounded like a night you'll remember, nice bowling!

I have witnessed so many losses at the hands of people shooting WAY over their averages that I block it out any more. One that stands out for me is the reverse. One lady I bowled with didnt touch a pin for 5 consecutive frames. No typos, no BS, 5 painful ever lasting all gutter, nightmare inducing frames from hell. I ended up shooting in the 250+ range and we lost by 2 pins!! That was the last time I joined teams that I do not know.
