Hello everyone! I am new to this forum and to the bowling community as a whole. I have bowled occaisionally with friends over the years and my fiance and two of our good friends decided to join a league. We are really excited about it and we even went out and purchased balls, shoes and other accessories. I got a Brunswick Copperhead 15lb which was recommended by a friend who works at a Pro Shop and gave me a pretty good deal on it. I bowled 3 games with it and my average was 122. About right but I was trying to learn how to roll it the proper way.( under hand spiral) Each game got better so I am pretty happy about that!

Anyway, tonight is the first night of our league and I hope to report back with some good news! I look forward to all of the advise I will get from this site. Talk to you soon!

good luck, and just remember its a long season so don't get down on yourself when you have off nights. Its bound to happen at some point, and that just means you get more handicap the following week. One week is not going to make or break your season, and neither will having a high average. The key to league nights is just being consistant. If you bowl your average or slightly over (as a team) more times than not, you will win. Always have fun, as thats the point of it!!

Welcome to the site and to league bowling. The most important thing to remember with being new to league is, HAVE FUN, and don't put too much stock in the scores right now. Sure winning is nice but thinking about the scores can be counter-productive. Good luck.

Welcome to the site and to the sport. I agree, scores are meaningless in the beginning it's about getting some fundamentals down. You will have time to work on that for now just enjoy yourself and have fun. Good luck!

Well first night was a blast! My league has some pretty good bowlers! Thank goodness for handicaps. My team lost all 3 games and total pins. We lost by 2 pins on the last game. The good news is that We all improved each game.

As for myself I bowled a 101,115,148. I think I got in the right groove with my ball in the last frame of the 2nd game. In the 7 frame of the 3rd game I ripped my pants! That ruined my good game but I still had fun and it made for a good laugh. i am looking forward to next week! I will remember to wear loose fitting jeans next time.

Thats good, and good job on the improvements throughout the night. I assume the first game you probably had a little bit of the nervous jitters considering it was your first time bowling for a reason, as opposed to just a weekend night out.

Now a few questions for you.
Do you throw the ball straight or are you working on a hook?
Do you look at the pins or do you look at a mark on the lane? Do you know how to count boards yet?
If so, do you know where you are lining up with your feet?

I do throw a hook most of the time. Still looking for consistency.

I tend to look at the pins, I have tried other focus points but I tend to not do as well.( i.e. arrows)

I have not learned how to count boards yet. Not sure what this means. blush

I line my feet up so that my right foot is just to the left of the middle do that is closer to the foul line. My left foot is positioned next to it slightly further back.

Counting boards is a way of determining where you are standing, and where your ball is at going down the lane. If you look at the lane and approach you will see about 1 inch strips. Each one of those is a board. There are 39 boards on a lane. You start on the side that you are throwing the ball with, if you are a right hander, you start from the right gutter. Each arrow is 5 boards, with the first arrow being the 5 board. The center arrow is the 20 board. The dots are the spacing. The center dot is 20.
