Jaros has his fingers at 4:00 with the index finger at 3:00. Jaros wrist is broken. Barnes has his fingers at 4:30 with index finger at 3:30. Barnes wrist is cocked.

Both men are behind the ball at the top of the backswing and release the ball with fingers at 5:00 at the release point with the fingers rotating to 4:30 as the fingers exit the ball. Barnes throws more hook than Jaros because the cocked wrist positions his fingers more under the ball. Jaros with his broken wrist throws less hook than Barnes. Jaros may use forward pitch to zero pitch in his fingers to compensate for being more on top of the ball.

Jaros by being so much on the side of the ball during his stance and having his wrist broken is kind of "old school" - that is by having the broken wrist his thumb is pointing straight down at the floor at the release point and is pointing at his target during his followthrough. I believe the broken wrist technique is another means of having a relaxed pendulum armswing as opposed to using certain arm muscles to maintain a cocked wrist during the armswing. If I were to try holding the ball like Steve Jaros does, I probably would have to use a little bit of forward pitch in the fingers because I have small hands.

Barnes has his hand more inside the ball up until the release point as well, so the act of getting his hand from inside to where the ball comes off creates more revolutions than jaros, who pretty much stays behind the ball the whole time.
