Dennis you jinxed me. I went and subbed tonight and had to come in with a 212 average from last year. The first game was 214 with 2 splits the middle game I had the front 9. No nerves, dead flush in the pocket and ringing 10 pin! Covered it and struck for 279. That was where the good stuff ended. I started out decent but had 4 splits including 2 8-10s that dominoed into that God awful split. I don't know how I can go from locked in to lost in 4-5 frames and finishing with a 151. I know the oil moved but still. I did help the team win 5 of 7 points and with the 644 series (same as you Dennis) I didnt hurt my chances to sub again in the coming weeks.

Just so I'm sure if you do shoot 300 in a sanctioned league as a sub it does count as an honor score right? I plan on trading practice time for subbing the rest of the winter or as much as possible. Practice does not show me how lanes break down over 3 games with 8 bowlers and aggressive balls.

My Week 15 bowling (BowlSK)

As I titled my blog, it was a lost opportunity tonight, as I was 13 pins over my average after 2 games and just lost it a bit, finishing 3 under my average for the night (a 537 series). Team only took the second game point, but I'll leave it to the blog for the story of how we got there.

Yes, the more you sub the more you have a chance at a honor score.

Congrats on the 279, as much as I personally HATE that score it's still good to see on the recap.

Mike, sorry about the jinx. But, that is twice in a short while where we have had identical series.

It's really deflating to finish with a 150. But, I know, there was nothing we could have done to change that game. We tried. It just wasn't to be.

Nice 279 game though.

Tonight, I had the same problem of just not finishing. Not only with the ball, but in the game. I opened every 10th frame.

First game I came in light to leave a 2-10 in the 10th for a 191,
Second game I got a pocket 7-10. As anchor, I needed the 7 to win the game by a pin. Shot 197.
Third game I left a 3-10, which I never miss..... until tonight, to finish with 200 on the nose.

We won the first 2 games and had a 23 pin lead for series going into the third game. We got beat by 148 pins to lose the game and series. The scores against us were 203, 224, 247, 265, for a pretty strong finish by our opponent.

BTW, the 265 game was by a fellow who just bought a Storm Virtual Gravity ball on the way to league. Only rolled a few practice balls after drilling at another house. He had a 796 the first time he used the ball. He had 3-260 games.

But, he is a lefty, so it was an easier shot for him.

Tonight I sub'd for a friend on a scratch TRIO league, bowled once on that league before so like the man on man match ups. I came in with book of 207 though it listed me as 228 from last time..but it doesn't matter since it's all scratch.

I typically don't score very high in this house and since we're the 9pm league, the lanes are well broken into with some crazy lines. I'm happy if I can get 220s. Threw a 224 first set feeling like I left some pins on deck, played with the Venom. 2nd game, my line broke down and fought for a 189 with a ball change to the Kinetic in the 9th. Carried over that ball into the next game where I shot a 232 but still had to change to ANOTHER ball for a different look around the 7th, went to the Dimension threw the ball farther out with bit more revs. I'm over 7 bds to the left already from when I started. 4th game I started with the Dimension then 3 frames was high high high, switch back to the Venom playing about the same line as the Dim and struck out for a 230. At this point I was having to get around the ball return, laying down on the bottom right of the 5th arrow and wingin it out to the 6-7bd. The other line was laying on the left side of the 4th arrow breaking at the 8-9 trying to use more length and play inside.

Seems every line lasted 5-6 frames at most before it broke down and had to switch lines

So 224,189,232,230 for a 875..... for a +47 over book ave for the night. Won 3 of the 4 games over their anchor that had a rougher night then me. I lost the second game 189 vs 227

Last night was the end of the first half. We needed to win 2 more points than the 2nd place team to get second or win 2 points all night to stay in 3rd.

I got to the alley late because I had to get the kids from daycare and drop them off at home. I got them situated with my mother-in-law, grabbed my equipment out of the hall closet, and left for bowling. Needless to say I only got about 4 practice balls. I had an okay line. Shot 218 the first game. Teammate shot 248. Other 3 teammates didn't do anything. Lost by 50. 2nd place team won their game.

2nd game, the ball started to jump and I adjusted. Left a 2-4-8-10. Tried to adjust too much. Then, I whiffed a 4 pin. I got way to soft with it. Ended with a 191. Left a lot of pins on the lanes. I will still having a hard time keeping my line. Lost by 30. Now we were just fighting to stay in 3rd.

3rd game, ball was still jumpy and I kept moving deeper. My left heal was on the last dot on the left, throwing over 13 out to 4. Ball started to really dive on me. That is when I realized what I should have been doing. I started coming up behind the ball instead of around it. I finished with 6 of the last 7 (7 pin in the 8th). I whiffed a 10 pin that game and chopped the 6 off of the 10. Finishes with a 206. Won the game by 30. Took 3rd for the 1st half.

Shot 615. Left a lot of pins on the alley. Now, I am off for almost a month. I am missing next week due to being out of town for work then we have a 2 week hiatus due to the Holidays. I just need to work on adjusting my hand positions earlier and make sure that I stay down on my shots. One of the keys for me throwing the ball correctly is a deep knee bend.

position week always seems hit or miss, even worse when it feels the entire team can't get going together. This is why we sandwitch those players in the middle. Strong lead off guy to set the tone and just as strong anchor to wrap things up.

My team doesn't change order at all. It is a mixed league and the bowlers who bowl 1-3 are set in their ways. The first 2 don't want to bowl any other position other than where they are at. The 3rd bowler is so up and down, he wouldn't feel comfortable bowling 4th or 5th. So, that leaves it to switching me and the anchor. We could switch but he did fairly well all night. Oh well.

We switch all the time. The Captain makes the call, and it seems every 2 weeks, we have a different line up.

Personally, I don't believe it makes that much difference. But, she is a Bronze Coach, well versed in the Psychology of the game, and I am an invitee. So, I just go along.

I can bowl 550, 650, or 750 in any position. It's a matter of me, not which spot.
