I'm more prone to use Storm equipment, so I I'd lean more towards the Street Rod solid as a one condition that the surface is easily adjusted comes out of the box at 2000, and if taken to 1000 handles carrydown very nicely, polished, it handles dry lanes quite nicely as well...

Good advice from everyone thus far, and congrats. Hope it's a really fun year for her. I'd agree that the Dead Flush wouldn't be the right choice if it's her only strike ball. It would be very tough to control on fresh conditions. Avalanche Solid, Street Rod solid, Columbia Rival can be had for cheaper recently, or a Gamebreaker if something with a little more pop is what would help her.

I'd like to add my congratulations as well. thumbsup

I'm not a manufacturer snob like some of the others on here wink but here's my humble opinion. I would steer clear of the Power Groove since its basically the same as a plastic ball just with a reactive coverstock to get a little grip. The Avalanche Solid is suppose to take cover adjustments well, as well as the Storm Street Rod. There are several others that might be good as well. Like it's already been said talk to the coach as he would have a better idea of what she will face. Good luck to your daughter.

I just bought an Avalanche Solid this weekend, and I'm very happy with it. It's a very versatile ball, and, based on what I've been reading, can fit a variety of bowling styles.

The Storm Street Rod was another ball I strongly considered. Ultimately, I went with the Avalanche for 2 reasons: the Pro Shop at the center I bowl at had them in stock, and it was a tad cheaper than the Street Rod. I would suspect either ball would serve your daughter well.

I recommend the Avalanche over the Street Rod due to the BTM ratings - the Avalanche got higher average ratings in its non-strength categories (heavy and light oil), and also a higher rating in the sport category.

The total of the ratings (oily/medium/dry/sport) for stroker (assuming your daughter is not a cranker) was 29 for the Avalanche solid (6/9/6/8), and only 26.5 for the Street Rod solid (7/9/3/7.5)

Note that the tests were done at box finish too, which is 2000 abralon for the Street Rod, and Rough Buff (which is closer to 4000 abralon) on the Avalanche. The Avalanche could be scuffed for heavier patterns, and the Street Rod could be polished for lighter.

If I can, I'm going to talk to her coach tonight and, who knows, maybe even get her a new ball, too.

I'll post what she ends up with.

Thanks for all the help.

OK, so I had a great conversation with my daughter's coach and based on his input I ended up getting her a Brunswick Avalanche Solid. It's 14 lbs (up from her current 12) and the shop took it down to 2000. It was a close-out and got a team discount of 15%; so, it was a decent deal.

Unfortunately, she didn't get a lot of time to practice with it last night but she seemed to have no trouble adjusting to the fingertip grip. She threw about 5-6 frames and had a couple shots that sent messengers flying across the lanes. The coach even commented on how well she seemed to take to the new grip.

I'm so proud of her. thumbsup

And, as a side note, the coach is a very nice guy. Really enjoys helping the kids learn.

Congrats on your daughter making the team, and how easily she is adjusting to the new ball. Sounds like she is a natural.

Its great that she has a father who takes an interest and a good coach who genuinely want the kids to succeed, and have the patience to "teach" them.
Good Luck this year!
