I was wondering are handicaps different for men and women, a 25 yr old or an 55 yr old or is it calculated by the skill of the bowler across the board? I am not a league bowler but I have been bowling for a while and actually usually average 175, but I see women who bowl 220 and up a lot and some men who cant bowl over 120 the same with age, but someone told me that a womans handicap is higher because of our [censored] if you bowl in a league and same with age.

Handicap is determined by your average. Some leagues vary on what type of handicapping system they use but, They do not look at age or [censored] for handicapping. So, A 60yr old male averaging 200 is going to get the same as a 20yr old female averaging 200.

My league adds everyone's average together and subtracts 950. Then takes that number and multiplyies it by 85%. Thats how much handicap the team gets every game. We have a mixed league with men and women that average between 97-230.

I've never heard of any league calculating based on age or [censored] (guess it could happen). On our mixed league all handicaps are calculated the same no matter the person's age or [censored].

Handicap is based on your average and the difference between that and a high cap.

The two variables will be what is that high cap? Which most around here place at the highest league average. And, what % you give the bowled of the difference between their average and the high cap?

Both of those are usually league rules that are open for discussion annually.

I've never heard of handicapping by [censored] or age. Some leagues are seniors only so in a way they are exclusionary via their league rules, but they still handicap the same for everyone. Some leagues are women only or men only but handicaps are the same for everyone per league rules. Some leagues have caps on team averages which makes it difficult for very high average bowlers to bowl together.

You'll see tournaments in divisions sometimes by [censored] and age, but if they are handicapped then its the same for everyone in that division. Again as per each tournament's rules.

I have seen I think one instance of separate handicapping for genders. I believe it was some tournament flyer I saw once. It had me scratching my head some. I think it was just a higher percentage based off the the same base, but that was the only time I saw something like that.

I think there was another time I heard someone kicking around the idea of it, or maybe read it about it on the net but I don't think it ever really happened.
