If its drilled conventional you can't skip the plugging and re-drilling. It's still conventional span and you won't get a consistent hook that way plus you would have to grip the ball which leads to a lot of bad habits and possible injuries and that's not conducive to bowling well.

If you place your thumb in the ball and lay your fingers across the holes and the edge of the hole closest to your thumb lines up exactly in the middle between the first and second knuckle you can just get inserts put in the finger holes. 90% of the time pro shops drill fingertip spans too long, so there is a good chance the span was too long for your conventional grip. If it is, you can just pop the inserts in, instead of having them over stretch your fingertip span as well.

If you post another picture with your thumb in the ball and your fingers laying across the holes so I can see how the holes line up with your fingers, I could tell you if it will work or not.

A picture of your hand fully insert as CoachJIm said would definitely help. The span looks like it could be long enough for a fingertip span, but without seeing the hand in the ball its hard to tell. If it is already a fingertip span the inserts won't necessarily give you more hook, but might make it easier to get get the ball to hold on your hand better by itself.

That's kind of odd. The middle finger seems fine for a conventional grip and the ring finger more for a fingertip fit, almost.

I cringe at how much your hand must stretch to get your fingers in to the second knuckle. It does look close to being right for a fingertip grip, but it's probably not exact. If you do get it plugged, tell the shop you want a relaxed fingertip grip.

I say try having them drill the existing finger holes for inserts and see how it fits, it can't be worse than what it is for a conventional, you are lucky you didn't permanently injure yourself with a span that stretched.

That's close for a relaxed finger tip, and my hand is hurting just thinking of the fingers going in up to the second knuckle. Like the Coach said get the holes opened up for inserts and give it a shot. Of course the hard part is getting the Pro Shop to do what you want to do and not what they want to do which happens a lot.

I tried finger tip bowling for the first time ever.


Got a 177, 166, 162. By no means very good, but like I said, it was my first time with a new ball and a new style. The games had flashes of good. I got 4 strikes in a row the first game. It seems like the ball gives me a lot of room for error in the pocket area because the [censored] pins explode when that ball hits. When I stayed focues and went through the motions that ball seems almost heat seeking to that pocket.... it's a beautiful thing


I got several brooklyn strikes (Im guessing you shouldnt ever really count on those.... they're more of a lucky bail out?)
