Now I don't mean while you are on the approach but when you are sitting and waiting for your other team mates to go, how many of you listen to music. I've never done it but I was watching WRW vs. Pete Weber the other day on the internet and they talked about how he does that when he bowls. Just wondering if anyone else does it and whether it helps to maybe get you pumped up I guess. Lol.

It helps me out. But I do it on the approach and when I'm in waiting for my teammates to bowl. It helps. It loosens me up so I don't over think things and others times when I need to focus, it's nice to have a song to match your steps to. Carmen is a pretty good one for me, but usually it's a mix of either rock or hip hop and rap

I know a few people, and have seen others that listen to MP3 players while bowling, this includes on the approach. Since they use earphones they are also listening to it between their turns. I don't do it because the wires would be a little too distracting.

Those two depend on bowling for a living. My suggestion is at your age enjoy the game and the company of your team mates and competion. In my Thursday league we have music playing throughout the alley and yes it does help to get pumped up and put all other distractions out of my mind.

I'm a junior bowler so this may only apply to my leagues/tournaments but I believe it's been ruled that we can't listen to iPods, MP3 players, etc, or even use our Cell phones really. For music, I know that applies at least on the approach, it may vary when it comes to waiting for your turn. I personally don't listen to music besides wha may be playing in the center, as I wear hearing aids and it'd really be more of a hassle.

Leagues and tournaments can make rules to prohibit the use of electronic devices. Nationals has this rule. You can't even have them out in the bowler's area. The rationale behind it is that they can be a distraction and slow down the pace of bowling. Some will even argue that listening to MP3 players are anti-social and shouldn't be allowed, but that argument smells like bull feces to me.

I really haven't came across any rule that prohibits the use of musical devices. But I was going to ask if there was a rule like at nationals against it or not. And as far as distracting or anti-social, Cal you said it best, smells like bulls feces. Distracting only if someone is blasting their music, in which case you ask them to turn it down and explain that is the reason why they are deaf lol. Anti-social only to people who need things to be all about them. Music has a way of putting you in the zone. It's not anti-social if you want to stay in that zone.

I used to bowl with an mp3 player, even on the approach. It was mostly because I had a teammate who wouldn't shut up about insignificant [censored]. That way I could smile and nod whenever he got to talking incessantly, while turning up the volume. The Fifth Element's Techno Opera, and Dragula were the the songs I bowled the best to.

Not to get too off-topic and hijack this thread with my disdain for the way Nationals is run, but Nationals pretty much deems that anything other than herding bowlers in and out on the heels of the next squad slows down the pace of the game. I'm surprised no spotter chides you for not striking enough. To me Nationals makes pro bowling from the 70's and 80's seem light-hearted and a ball of laughs. That's pretty much all I'm going to say about that. Carry on and nevermind the man behind the curtain. He talks out of his [censored] anyway.

I bowl with my iPod in practice! Each of my balls has...a theme song. Somehow I feel synchronized when there's a song I hear that reminds me of that ball! It can be great if you have to practice with some punk kids on the next lane acting stupid... Or if you like to practice during cosmic bowling but don't like what they play.
