I recently got a
Track Uprising and had pretty good results with it. It rolls very smooth and shatters the rack. It hit so hard that the guy behind the desk at the lanes said to me as I was leaving for the night that he heard a couple of my strikes with it and noticed how hard it hit and how much force it drove in. He said it sounded like someone got shot when it hit the pins lol!
However, this ball is a nice ball, probably a bit stronger than my other balls actually. (Also probably has to do with the way its drilled compared to my other balls). But it is a bit less controllable than some of my other balls. The backend is a bit more angular whereas if your brother is moving up from a power groove, which was my first performance ball, and has not only a lesser hook potential but not as strong an angle, jumping into something like that may be a bit of a challenge. Not at all impossible, but like has been said at least once here already, if the ball matches him then its great. If not so much, there may be better options out there. Truly, a good
Pro Shop could watch the way he bowls and base a ball choice based on his form and release as well as what reaction he's looking for.
The power groove is a great ball for the money and for the control and reaction actually. But if its something stronger you're looking for the Uprising would definitely fit that, but so would other balls that may be easier to control or handle, depending on his style of course. For example, prior to getting the uprising I bowled with an
Ebonite Predator and then more so with an
Ebonite Playmaker. The key is that there are many wonderful bowling balls out there, but finding those that fit the bowler is the hardest thing to do. I started liking
Brunswick balls but after talking with the local
Pro Shop and some more experienced bowlers I found myself to fit better into the
Ebonite and
Track company's products. Sorry if this got really long winded, I just got typing and couldn't stop, but one final thing to do, which may be too obvious to even state, is to research research research. I found it VERY helpful to check as many websites and customer reviews as possible. Its really useful when you can find reviews from both ends of the spectrum, the very experience bowlers as well as the beginners. Seeing what both have to say can really give you an idea of what the ball can do in many different bowler's hands. Best of luck!
