Well the best 3-week streak of bowling since my comeback 2 years ago has me establishing my average at 192 for the 2008/2009 Fall/Winter League. Pretty lofty for someone who both the last Summer League and the last Fall/Winter League averaged 164.

Just to show how good it has been:

First time since comeback I have had a least one 200 game in series for three weeks straight.
First time since comeback I had two 200 games in the same night, and did it not just once, but twice.
Just the second 600 series since my comeback.

Let me say I am very excited but as you may imagine I am somewhat concerned.

The reasons I am concerned is it was not all that long ago (about 4 months ago) I had a 4-week stretch of the worst bowling since my comeback that included a 113 game and a 145 average over that span. Also I worry that this is just a case of me bowling way over my head and it is just happening at the worst possible time (When establishing average).

The reasons I am excited and think I have finally broken through in a major way is I have not had a series where I averaged under 160 since that bad streak and I have got a major glitch in my mechanics straightened out. I am focused, confident, and yet realistic that there are times I will struggle but that I can work my way through and feel I now have the tools to limit the damage.

Anyway I just kind of wanted to share my success and thank everyone on these boards for all their help and support. I have had limited progress the last 2 years but I now realize a lot of that was because I wasn’t focusing enough on what I needed to do to get to the next level. I am not sure if I can keep up with the level of the last 3 weeks but I sure know I am going to give it 110% effort and know I will work through any rough spells and just keep coming out stronger.

Scott,
Nice bowling. Keep it up. Dont worry about what you did bowl in the past. Just take it one game at a time. Bowling funny you can be bowling your worst ever and you make a little change or something and you start bowling good. Just ride that wave as long as you can keep doing what your doing.

Thanks Brandon,

My whole attitude has changed since I made my goals about Execution and focus rather than scores. Now the scores are coming naturally because I am executing. I have been really good about not paying attention to the score and just getting up and executing my shots. When I can do that it makes a big difference.

Congrats Scott on a nice opening to the season.

Don't worry about the slump you had in the past, and you bowling over your head. Did you ever think that maybe YOU have become a better a bowler, and you are starting to hit a higher average because of it. Sure you will have slumps here and there, everyone does no matter what sport they participate in. But you have worked hard in your come back, and I suspect you are now bowling your average, your NEW average. Don't be surprised that it does'nt even climb a little more.

I have been in a major slump for months,..but..like you I am also excited about the upcoming week. I think I stumbled onto something during my last game Saturday in my mixed league. I continued with it during practice on Sunday. Plus I pick up a long awaited new ball this week. So I hope that I can join you in reporting some genuine success in the weeks ahead.

Stay with it, & Good Luck this week. smile

Thanks Everyone,

I really think I have a major part of my game straightened out which I think is why I am bowling so much better but I have learned not to try to think that you have something figured out in this game too much.

What I am doing and really concentrating on is “throwing” the ball over my spot and following through on my shot. In the past I struggle with either dropping the ball too quick causing me to miss my mark and lose accuracy or babying it over the mark which causes a lousy reaction.

I am very excited and looking forward to the challenge of continuing to improve. I know bowling tends to go in cycles and we all have slumps and hot streaks but as time goes on and I get more games under my belt my personal highs are getting higher so I must be learning something.
