Last Friday, I bowled pretty well and broke my old series. In game 1, I bowled 3 splits in 1 to 3rd frames. I got couple strikes in different frames. I made 2 spares. I got hambone in 12th frames. In 2nd games, I bowled okay but missed 4 spares, and failed to made strikeout in 10th frames. 3rd games, I bowled a lot of strikes, but missed some spares. At 10th frames, I got hambone and tired for 5 strikes, but failed to make 200.
181-168-198 = 547
My new series 547 broke previous old series 534 in 8th March 2008.

Well we were in third place and ended up splitting this weekend. I had a whopping 507 series... 171, 166, & 170. Had a few splits, and just errant shots. I found a nice line in the 3rd game, and poof it just went away. Oh well at least we split as we were up against one of the bottom teams. Funny we lost the first game by 70 pins, won the second by one pin, and won the third by two pins lol.

Well, tonight was interesting night. We were bowling against another team stacked with good bowlers...as a result, we were getting 84 pins on the handicap. I came into the night with a measly 122 average. First game, everyone struggled...apparently they changed the sprayers on the oil machine, so it was laying down more oil than usual, and it threw everyone off. I threw the absolute worst game I have thrown since I started bowling in this league (and I've had some bad ones in the first two weeks); a 97. Yuck. The problem was, I simply could not find a reasonable way to get to the pocket. With all this oil, my urethane ball simply would not move. Had a really difficult time making spares.
I did notice a few things. First, I wasn't pulling the ball across my body at all anymore...thanks to the tips I got at league night last week. I also noticed myself short-arming the ball...pulling my arm back after the release. I fixed this for the second game.
In the second and third game, between my own adjustments, and the lanes breaking down, I shot a 151 in the second game, and a 159 in the third, for a 407 series. For most around here, that would be a bad night, but those are the two best games I've had so far in this league. I was very happy with my performance, particularly with this fact: I picked up every single 7 pin I left, and there were a few of them in those last two games. I finally seem to have this spare figured out, and it made a huge impact on my game. I feel much more confident in the fundamentals of my game now than I did even a week ago. Much more work to be done, of course, but improvement was definitely made, it was a good night.
Everyone was struggling all night (except me, it seems), so by me bowling over average those last two games we were able win, and managed to take 5 of 7. First week we've won so far.

another decent night for me on my scratch league. Tonight was a snappy back end, so had to throw with speed, anything remotely slower would smash the face. Venom worked well, some carry issues as always at this house. Had to switch to the Dimension in the 4th frame of the 3rd game. Threw 205, 238, 211 for a 654. This is the 3rd week in a row that I had 650-660's. My average jumped today from 209 to 211 for next week.

Thanks EW. I know I'll get there. It is only a matter of transferring what I do at practice over to league night.
I have been thinking about starting out my next league night by doing what I've been starting out with in practice... the 1 step approach. I've been doing this as I've been changing my release and I'm not quite comfortable with it yet nor consistant between sessions. Practicing in my yard has been helping to engrain it into muscle memory but it's not quite there yet. I'll start out with that and once I'm comfortable with it that night then I'll go back to my normal approach. It's hard to learn Ron's learning new releases baby steps during league. It's too bad I had my release lightbulb moment just a couple of weeks ago.
Infernocal - I know how you feel with that 93... I started out this league with a 93. Tons of gutter balls, etc. At least I was able to squeak out a 173 to end my series for a 414.
