I think you are right. I believe the rule applies to altering the ball surface. I just saw this as another means to affect how one bowls.

I have seen at tourneys where a bowler will lose a finger insert while throwing the ball. The glue comes out and the finger insert pops out. They are allowed to re-glue the insert. I have had an insert rip on me in the middle of the game. I have gone to the Pro Shop, had the old insert removed, and put in a new one and didn't miss a frame.

Bob Learn has 2 different thumb slugs for his interchangeable thumbs, with different pitches. One helps him get around the ball more.

Good point CG. If it were the case that you couldn't change inserts/thumb slugs during the game, then the interchangeable inserts wouldn't have a very big market.

Well after 3 weeks of this season my average is 20 pins higher than at this point last year. Problem is, its at least 15 pins lower than what it should be! The worst part is my average is 191, and I've had 6 200 games and 3 under-200 games, but all those under-200 games were low enough to keep me from hitting a 600 series.

if you took the summer off, then maybe it takes some time to get back in the swing of it all. If not, well then your -15 no matter how you see it. Use the exrta handicap as a nice buffer til you get your swing back or used to the lanes. 191 isn't a bad ave at all.

Sounds like your just missing 1 spare or two a game. Last night I had 5 10 pins in a row. If I miss even 1 of those I'm below 200. All it takes is 1 especially if your not stringing any strikes together. Patience, patience, patience.

Shot 643 (209,236,198)last night with my Sting(alittle more oil).
First time though I didn't carry 10 pins in the first game
1st frame strike then 4 tens in a row. Lucky for me I picked them all up thanks to my white dot. Still looking at the cherry vibe or Hornet for that 3rd game when the lanes break down.

next time you keep getting solid 10 pins, move back 1" from the start, should allow the ball to hit a lil higher and get more carry to that side of the deck. None the less, solid series!!

If you're leaving consecutive 10 pins, you're just a hair off on your ball read. Last time I left 4 in a row all solid, I made a ball and line change and proceeded to strike at will. Sounds like the lane shortened up a hair enough for you to start carrying again.
