I haven't gone to the doctor yet but I think I've been diagnosed with elbow bursitis(possibly infected as well) in my non-bowling arm. As is, I can bowl but it hurts a good amount to make certain movements especially if I leave my arm in a position for a certain period of time. When I get this treated, I know it'll be recomended not to do any heavy lifting and that sort of them.

Do you guys think a 15lb bowling ball is heavy enough to disrupt the recovery? Has any experienced bursitis in any part of their body or know anyone that has?

I've been looking forward to this season for the past month and now there's a chance I can't pick up a bowling ball for 6 months, more or less. I'm supposed to be doing two or three leagues, at least one of which is PBAX(one starts tomorrow). I'm just really bummed about this and would like some words of thought as well as answers to my above questions.

I have bursitis in the joint behind the small toe on my left foot. When standing for extended periods of time (say...a 40 minute lunch duty period at work), the pain is awful. NSAIDs help some, since it is an inflammation of the joint. But it still hurts.

A friend of mine (who I am joining a league with) had bursitis in his knee a few years ago. He still wears a knee brace when we go bowling, just for the extra support. It sucks, and it's very painful, but if will get better with treatment. For me, that means custom orthotics for my shoes. You may have to wear an elbow brace for a while.

Since it is in your non-bowling arm, you might still be able to bowl, if you do all you can to keep from putting too much pressure on the affected elbow. Good luck, hope it all works out for you!!

After reading on it some more I think my treatment will include antibiotics and possibly a splint(if necessary) but only for a few days. Other than that I'd still have to not put the elbow under strenuous lifting or pressure. The amount of time I'm not sure of but one source says a week or two. I'd be happy with that rather than months. I'm thinking and hoping holding a bowling ball is not strenuous pressure.

Ask your doctor if you can still bowl. If he says yes cool, if he says no then treat your injury and get back to 100%. If he says maybe it will probably result in lots of subbing and dropping in ball weight.

Sorry to hear about your injury Am, I had bursitis in my bowling elbow, (caused by no thumb bowling, and a span that was too long). I had to miss about 6 weeks. This is what prompted me to look into changing my grip to where it is now. The more articles I read about span and pitches and squeezing, the more I realized that I needed to do something about it or quit bowling.

Since it is your left arm and not your bowling arm, you may be able to bowl one handed, but make sure you go slower because your balance arm being in a splint may mess up your balance to the point you may not be able to bowl until your arm gets out of the sling.

Get well soon.

Sorry amateur. Any arm injury, even on your balance arm, throws your game off. I cracked my wrist the week before Nationals this year. It was my left arm, but even with a splint, it greatly affected my timing and balance.

Best I could say, is let it heal, and maybe the Doc has a quicker remedy.
