I was back at the "Pro Shop" (and I use that term loosely) tonight. Once again, they goofed.

They measured my hand and we clearly told them to drill for fingertip inserts. An hour later, the guy brings out my ball with no inserts...

Anyway, the bowling alley manager got all in the driller's [censored] and they are re-filling the ball and re-drilling on Monday.

Can you look over this drill sheet and make any suggestions:

They will put in a smooth thumb slug and also some soft rubber fingertip inserts.

I don't see anything unusual about your drill sheet, as long as those numbers fit your hand it should be fine. The hole sizes are for drilled holes not finger inserts.

Was it drilled conventional span or just without the rubber inserts? If it was drilled finger tip span but at the hole size for your fingers than all they should have had to do was drill the holes bigger, even though plugging would help get the bit set right.

Now if it was drill conventional span and this was a brand new ball they should drill you up another new ball. You shouldn't have to pay for a new ball that they screwed up on and had to plug.

I just want to make sure the pitches are right.

It was drilled for conventional because I asked them to. Then, I had them plug it and asked for fingertip drilling with inserts. They just forgot the inserts.

Now, they are plugging all the holes and re-drilling all three.

I'll get a thumb slug and fingertip inserts.

They could have had the ball to you that day if they really wanted to. They could have just opened the holes up to the correct size. As was talking about on another thread there could be some drill chatter with the already hallow area though.

Now your pitches will be unique to you based on your hand, its flexibility and any issues you might have with it. Pitches are also a work in progress. Ron Clifton has stated he has changed his numerous times and might finally have it where he won't need to re-drill for a while. Your span is similar to mine, I think just a touch longer and I'm at 0 in my fingers and a 1/4 inch reverse in the thumb. That will probably change as I start to bowl and if I can completely get away from squeezing. The thumb will go forward but I have a long thumb as well, close to 3 inches.

I feel better about them just starting from scratch. I didn't like the looks of the original drilling and this will give you a fresh start with a descent drilling.

You will probably have to plug the thumb a few more times before you get it perfect, but at least this will give you a start in the right direction. Let us know how it goes.

Okay, it's all done. First time I have been able to hang a 16# ball off of my middle and ring finger.

The fingertips do feel a bit snug. But I think it'll take a bit of getting used to.

I'll try and record a game in the next few days so that you guys can give me some pointers.
