Bowling is full of surprises for me. I have been using a Twisted Fury for my strike ball and my average for the summer started out at 162 and has dropped to the 140s.

Before league tonight (sweeps) I had a horrible practice session. So out of frustration I put the Twisted Fury away and used my spare ball for league (with a straight release).

The switch from hook to straight delivery got me a 153 in game 1 and a 240 in game 2! I got my first 6 bagger and I blew away my previous lifetime high game of 214.

I did have a couple of lessons on the hook release, but I am just nowhere near as consistent as I need to be.

I just stand on board 1 (far right side) and toss it straight and very fast with a slight lob. It goes about 3 or 4 MPH faster than my hook release and is much more likely to strike.

Anyway, until tonight I was considering not participating in Fall league. But now there is hope!

Well done, Brett! Spare ball from the outside is a great shot to have when conditions are stupid dry. Keep grinding away at the hook release and it will get there.

Well done Brett! I was never able to break the 200 barrier with a plastic. Took a hook to get me there.

Good going Brett. It might take a little bit of time to get consistent with the hook ball, especially considering the issues with your hand. Only you can decide whats best for you though. It seems you are comfortable with going straight though.

Thanks everyone for the encouragement. It was like, if I didn't do OK Tuesday I was prepared to give up completely. I still have a hard time grasping what happened. But Fall league here I come. I hope this doesn't offend anyone, but I believe in God and I think this was His way of telling me 'Dont quit'.
