Hi everybody
Well i have a problem with drilling my new bowling balls. Our pro-shop worker has measured my fingers, thumb, span.... But when he drilled a ball i have problems because my thumb stucks.

I take balls home and do some changes on thumbhole (i whet a little and do some taping in thumbhole), now fits me great.
So now i wont to measure Thumb pitch (forward/reverse and left/right) on this ball.

I need that for new balls.

Any suggetions how to do this?

i can't think of an easy way to do it without a pitch gauge.

Yeah, your best bet is to take it in and have them measure the new pitches with the tape and everything in the hole.

That said, it is normal to tweak your ball-fit with tape. If you sanded the hole out to make it bigger, changed the bevel, or really did affect the pitch, the driller can copy that when they drill future balls. However, you can expect to add and remove tape to your thumbhole over time as your thumb shrinks and swells.

I know that it really isn't advisable to do it yourself, but how do you actually go about "opening up" the thumbhole in cases where you're "hanging up" on the ball?

A drum sander is one way. I know of one person that used a spade drill bit and a cordless drill. They also have a tool, that costs around $30 or so that lets you "work out" the hang spot. Its called a work out tool.

Sandpaper or a file are cheap and easy.

Thank you all

Thumb pitch, what does it really mean. Distance from what?

Thumb pitch at "0" is straight in line with the center of the ball.

Thumb pitch 1/4" forward is 1/4" toward the palm away from center.

Thumb pitch 1/4" reverse is 1/4" away from the palm from center of the ball.

Our new pitch gauge measures diameter and pitch simultaneously:
