180fury, when searching out a new league, the first thing I look for is the payout schedule. There has only been 1 time when I received a payout less than what I spent. Finding the payout on the night that I want to bowl could be a pain. But, that's just the way I do it. As a result, I bowl at different houses on different nights.

Now, with the price of gas, somehow, I have to recover that too. Don't know how I will do that?

dennis thats pretty interesting. i never thought to look at like that. i know what you mean about trying to find a night that you can bowl on. weekends is all i can do. thats why i bowl in the lucky13 league on sunday. there is not a league on saturday for adults in both houses i bowl at. mostly kids or teens. i rotate shifts at work so i can't do weeknights. frown stinks i know that much. dennis wished you lived in al. could learn a lot from ya if ya did laugh

The most disappointing one was my heart doctor. When I told her I was a bowler, she said that was fine exercise...for her 80 year old patients!

I did not tell her I sometime toss 10 lines in an hour and a half or two hours...her opinion is already formed.

If my main reason to bowl league was to make as money back as I spent in it, then there would be no sense in me bowling. All the leagues I know of pay by position, and even those that might win both halves might be come out ahead including lineage. That includes leagues that are $20 a week, but just over half of that goes to lineage and it its hard enough to get people to want to pay $16 a week.

I usually get remarks not so much about bowling, but my bowling equipment. When people (non-bowlers) find out that I take up to four balls with me to league they kind of laugh..What do you need with FOUR balls? is a common question. They deem it silly, and trying to explain it to them often becomes a pain, thier eyes glaze over..they just don't understand.

But then they find out that there is money involved at the end of the season...and suddenly they are interested. They are surprised at how much you can make by doing....of all the silly things...bowling.

talk about being laughed at . i feel into the lane tonight. the lady on the other team started laughing at me. i did my normal slide and i hit a sticky part somewhere near the foul line and fell into the lane hands first. i landed on all fours. sux. i even fouled. first time i have ever fouled. i wasn't happy one bit. i was sliding real good and then all of a sudden i hit a part where i just stuck. and wam! >:( but being laughed at didn't help either. i just walked it off and tryed to finish the 2nd game. i would laugh at myself if i was bowling on friday or something like that but not on league night.

180fury, sorry you fell.

But, just a tip. If and when someone sticks, or falls on the lane, always go to that spot on the approach and check that there is NO debris or moisture on the lane. It may have been there or the fallen bowler may have tracked it onto the lane.

Make sure you will not follow suit and stick or fall also.

A friend of mine took a couple of dives last season. His problem was not removing his shoe slippers lol. It's always one of those, make sure the bowler that falls is ok first, then laugh once you know they're alright.

Its amazing how many people fall from not removing their shoe covers. Some people just don't look at their feet to line up. As for falling, I always laugh at myself when it happens while bowling whether it's league or open playing.
